Error 3048,3 Message?

Hello,

While surfing the web just now, an alert message was flagged up from Norton stating the above alert code, followed by 'unable to fix'? I did a quick search on these forums but can't out exactly what it means. Also checked the log for it and there was no other information to go on. Was wondering if anyone here might have any ideas as to what it means exactly!

Using NIS 2013 V.20.4.0.40, W7 Home Prem SP1, No other real time protection programmes installed.

Haven't had any issues whatsoever since upgrading from NIS2012 several weeks ago.

Regards

Re: Error 3048,3 Message?

If you have only received this error once, it may be as Krusty13 says about a temporary update server issue that should resolve itself in time.

Keep trying LiveUpdate over the rest of today, and if you receive no more errors there is nothing to worry about.

If you still see errors tomorrow, post back and we can dig deeper for you.

Hi Krusty13 and Peterweb,

Thank you both for your replies, followed the link and applied the updates. I then went to 'Liveupdate' and did a manual update and that also downloaded the same size download, however, all seems well enough so will monitor for a day or so and then hopefully will mark this thread up as resolved.

Re: Error 3048,3 Message?

Hello,

Just a quick note to say everything appears to be OK, manually ran 'live update' a few times and also had it function automatically without further issue!

Have marked your reply as accepted solution so thanks again Krusty13.

Re: Error 3048,3 Message?

I wouldn't be so quick as to mark this as 'solved'.

I've been getting the same error - I've run the Intelligent Updater and Norton Power Eraser numerous times, and I've unistalled my Norton 360 using the Norton uninstaller and reinstalled but the issue still persists.

The original poster marked the thread solved, because for them the issue has gone away.

How long have you been seeing this error?

It is possible with the crush of users downloading the new v21 (2014) versions, the servers are overwhelmed temporarily. If you are seeing this error for more than a day, I would suggest starting a new thread so helpers will come to assist you. A solved thread may not get as much attention.

Re: Error 3048,3 Message?

I do understand that for the original poster the issue may well have gone away and I did consider starting a new thread but I also thought that other users might find it helpful to know that the solution described here is not a panacea.

I've had the error 4 or 5 times over the last couple of months.

I also hadn't realized that a new version had been released - that in itself could be the subject of a new thread entitled: 'Why doesn't my Norton 360 inform me when a new version is available?'

The solution accepted by the OP is in fact what is usually the resolution to this error message. The servers are either too busy, being maintained, or some other node between the user and the update servers is having issues. This error rarely goes on more than a day. If it does we deal with that on a one on one basis.

Did it last more than a day each time it happened? Again, I submit that it was probably a temporary server issue.

Depending on your settings in 360, there is a setting for Automatic Download of New Version. This will not usually notify your in the first days of the release. This delay may be to help releave congestion that would be created if every Norton customer in the world tried to download the new version at the same time.

Darren.
