error trying to download Norton ,on a second pc, then received phone call
Yesterday I was trying to install Norton on a friends secondary laptop, after already installing it on his primary m/c last week. I got an error message up, saying there was some java script files missing from the windows 10 operating system. I sent a message to the help centre, and within no time my friends mobile rang, saying it was assistance to the problem. The only way they could have that number was from the Norton account sign in, so it was supposed as genuine, and we allowed access to the pc, it was an Indian voice, and the person said we were being keylogged, and offered to rectify it ,and sell us a warranty for one or two years. I then realised it could not be genuine, and started closing down, with him questioning my actions as I did so. I then removed 2 programmes he had already installed, that allowed remote access, and then downloaded Malwarebytes that found 4 threats to quarantine, followed by Norton deep scan which found nothing. My next step will be to run Malwarebytes Anti Rootkit Beta, before attempting to install Norton again. I do suspect that Norton have a security breach somewhere, else how could anyone have known exactly at that moment we were in trouble, and my friends number had only being used when setting up his Norton account.
