Re: ETA

We finally got a response :

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Family/Connectivity-issues-with-Norton-Family-Progress/td-p/856432

This is what I got out of the message:

  • They found the root cause of the problem (Hooray!)
  • A fix is being tested (please work!)
  • There are multiple patches involved that should take less than a week to push out. (Hmmm, sounds like something got really corrupted!)
  • Symantec is not sorry about this disaster and wants you to be patient (Please dont sue!)
  • Continue to use this forum to complain about how clueless we are, or how bad the product is (It keeps Yvonne employed) :-)

Re: ETA

lol well it's been over a week since that "formal" post.  At least I was able to log in this morning.  Still see absolutely no activity though, even though my son has been on his computer for the last hour.

He also made another user on his computer called "NO NORTON" - Norton didn't notify me nor does it show up on his information.  I have made him delete it.  I would have thought that Norton would let me know if he does that, maybe that's a setting somewhere???

I wonder if there's another update on the ETA??  I've looked but cannot find anything

Re: ETA

Ah I didn't notice he date...
I can't login at all still, can't install. It still shows in my list of programs but is not running and when I click uninstall nothing happens.

How did your son create an account...does have admin privileges? Maybe you need to disable that

Re: ETA

Yeah he has admin rights - on his old laptop I could see on his profile when he would make new profiles and just tick the boxes in the settings to add them to Norton.  He does all sorts of stuff with virtual machines and what not so I like him to have some freedom to do that.  I'm going to have to disable his admin priviledges on his new laptop if Norton isn't going to work properly

Re: ETA

It seems that your son has good willness which does not rebuild OS on his PC. So, it looks the time to let him know the real world where are persons who steal other's properties, laugh other's unhappiness  and/or hate other's smile. So he need to take care of clicking links, visiting sites and typing.

I told that my children when I found what Norton parental control had been disabled to protect children during this trouble.

Re: ETA

Hi aa

Not really sure what you're trying to say

I'm happy for my son to have other accounts and virtual machines as long as I know about them and I can apply properly functioning NOF to them.  He used to like to build virtual machines as he likes to use various operating systems and tinker around.  As he is part of many online groups - spoken and written - he has unfortunately been the victim of the "real world" in the past, but has learned so much from it that even for a 10yo who is Autism Spectrum he is now much more "street smart" than other children who have been protected completely from other people.  He can now handle himself quite maturely in adverse situations much better than he used to.

That is why I love NOF - I can still protect him from the things I chose I want him protected from.  I love the flexibility of the program and that I can monitor what he is up to without "spying" on him.  It's just frustrating that it is still not working properly

Cheers,

Sue
