Every Restart: Norton Settings (Antivirus cannot be changed due to a pending remediation)

When ever I go to the Antivirus settings of Norton Security with Backup, it cannot be changed as shown below. It shows to me that I need to restart due to a "pending remediation". Even when I restarted, after some minutes of using my computer, the problem arises again. This is true for every restart I did.

I checked my system with a full scan and found out no viruses/threats were detected, and that the history logs does not detect real-time threats. I also did a Norton Autofix but did not found any problems.

Any help is appreciated.

Can you check in Security > History > Click at the top where it says Recent History and on the drop-down list look for Unresolved Security Risks > Click on that.  Does it show any entries?  If so, what are they?

I checked and no entries were shown. I don't think that a virus/threat is causing this.
No notification was shown that I need to restart, only if I checked the antivirus settings will I know.

OK, then it might just be a corrupt installation.  I suggest you download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.  Make sure you read the Before you begin section at the top of the page.  Also, once your new installation has completed remember to run Live Update, restarting where required, until no more updates are available.

Looks like downloading via NRRT is very slow.
Is it okay to uninstall using Norton Removal tool and download NSwB via http://www.norton.com/latestnsbu ?

Yeah, but I would uninstall from Windows Add / Remove programs first, then run NRT.  I would probably download from Norton Account to ensure you get a newer build than that link gives you.

This is a known problem and is under investigation by Symantec :

You do not have to reinstall.

It's a long thread, but one of your auto-startup programs might be causing this in Norton. Although it's not good, it's seen as a mid-priority problem with Norton NS. Most of the significant items are on page 3 and 4 of the thread.

Can you (also) post there, as that thread is leading for the communication with Symantec.

Okay, I was reinstalling when i received your reply, so now I'll just need to observe if the issue reoccurs. 

Thanks for the info, looks like i'm not the only one with the issue.
Is there a bad side of it other than not being able to change the auto-protect settings, like less security?
If that's it, I just need to wait until Norton fixes the problem on the next update.

No, there is no direct problem, Antivirus is fully functioning.

If you read through pages 3 and 4 of the other thread, you will see the discussion on that. I had extensive support contact about this problem and they took several samples of my system and programs.

You can help however by determining the culprit task (the more, the better and more joy), as I described in in the thread (see link below) and add your findings there :

It's been 3 hours since the re installation of my NSwB, and so far auto-protect is still normal. I'll keep you all posted for any changes, and I'll be glad to help find additional tasks.

Hi, yank. According to the user's profile, he's on Windows 8.1.

XVSSkulblaka7, have you been doing a total shutdown ?, which is required by Norton in Windows 8, to properly update.

yes, i always do a total shutdown whenever i'm not going to use my laptop for a while. 

anyways, the issue with the auto-protect has re-occurred. so, i can confirm that reinstalling the Norton product does not solve it, and as stated on the thread mentioned by Hugo.

All we need to do is find the culprit tasks making norton function this way, and just wait until it is fixed on future updates.
