Failure of Windows Update Process - error 80072EE2

I am using Norton Inernet Security 2014 (version 22.5.2.15) on my HP ProBook 450 G1 Notebook PC, which is running on Windows 8.1.

I am experiencing problems with the failure of the Windows Update process with error codes 80072EE2 (mostly) & 80072EFE (occasional).

I have tried running the Windows "Troubleshooting" tool from the Control Panel, & also the online version, as well Microsoft Fixit, and although they have all indicated that they have detected & fixed many problems, they have not actually resolved my Windows Update problem; I am still getting error 80072EE2 (mostly) & 80072EFE (occasional) Windows Update failures.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could answer the following question:

- Are there any NIS settings, which could possibly result in the failure of the Windows Updates process (with error codes 80072EE2 & 80072EFE) ?

Thank you

Please hold windows key and press R Type services.msc and start the Windows Update Service (by right clicking on it). If that doesn't help; try running sfc /scannow to repair corrupt components.

Jerry

Thank you very much for your 2 suggestions. Unfortunately, I have previously tried both without success.

Have also tried DISM Restore Health without success (could not download source files).

Hi BJM

I have replied there, although I would have preferred to have it all in this thread.

Hi bjm

Tried to delete this duplicate reply, but do not know how to.

Thanks - I have replied to F4E in that thread, although I would have preferred to have done it in this thread.
