False Positives when Group Policy enforced

Hello,

I started to see occasional notifications that my kids were disabling the norton family extension - which they denied but I assumed norton was telling the truth.   In order to remove any doubt, I used the windows group policy editor to make sure that the norton extension was force-installed and enabled, and that incognito mode was not available.  I also made sure that non-chrome browsers were useless by disabling JavaScript and enforcing a non-existent proxy.

After putting in those group policies - and they work perfectly - Norton is sending me many notifications every day that icognito has been turned on and that the extension is disabled, despite the fact that you literally can’t do either of those.

Please advise on a solution.

Re: False Positives when Group Policy enforced

Hi Mega-Gazz

Could you please check if you have multiple user profiles in chrome.
If yes, please ensure extensions states are enabled in all user profiles of chrome.
Also please check if there are any orphaned process of chrome running in the background.

Thanks
Norton Family Team.

Re: False Positives when Group Policy enforced

Hello,

The windows group policy enforces that the extension is installed and on for every user on the machine, and for every user profile in chrome.   I’ve tested it and it works, for all the profiles, and even if I create a new profile.  It also removes the menu option for incognito altogether.

I’ve done multiple hard reboots on the machine so orphaned profiles shouldn’t be a problem.

Thanks.  I responded to it, but for reference please see the following links which explain the group policies I’m referring to.  There is nothing wrong with the PC, the problem is that Norton is incorrectly telling us that the extension is disabled when it isn’t, and that incognito is being used when it isn’t.

Re: False Positives when Group Policy enforced

Hi Mega-Gazz

Thanks for sharing the links. Norton relies on third party browser settings & command line to detect browser extension states & incognito modes.
So we wanted to understand what exactly happens on your PC to trigger these alerts. That's the reason we have requested for a remote session.

Thanks
Norton Family Team.
