A few issues...

A few issues I have found, that need to be dealt with.

1. When installed, I selected NOT to install the Norton Toolbar. So, when I go into my browsers after, I was very mad to see the Norton Toolbar is ready to be used messages. If you are going to have your product IGNORE user input during installation, then why bother asking for it?

2. I set some folders to be excluded, as I know some of my game mods are listed as viruses, when they of course are not, yet when try to run my game, Norton IGNORES the excluded folders, and still REMOVES the files. Please correct this in future updates.

Re: A few issues...

Hi BurkeKnight,
Can you please share with us what is your Windows version and Norton product and version? [double click on desktop icon of Norton product > Support > About OR Norton icon on desktop > Help > about.]
The windows 8.x has a feature called faststartup, which can cause issues with some programs. If you use windows 8.x, please try disabling fast startup.
Please keep in touch with this topic.

Re: A few issues...

1. I am an OEM dealer for Microsoft, I know how to get version numbers....LOL

2. Windows 7 and trial version of the latest Norton Security. I had just installed it, not 2 hours before my post. Version: 22.0.0.110

3. I don't use 8.1, but I really have a feeling that it's Fast Startup would NOT be the cause of the issues I posted about, if I was using it.

Re: A few issues...

You cannot selectively 'not install' the Norton Toolbar. It is an integral part of the product.

If you did your install over the top of a previous Norton product, you may be referring to the prompt to install the Norton Toolbar as part of the uninstall of the previous product. This is an offer to keep your Identity Safe feature if you are uninstalling Norton to install another product.

Just go into your add ons settings in your browser(s) and disable the Norton Toolbar.

The fast start feature was referring to the fact that you may need to restart your computer to ensure all updates to the new installation were properly set up. So the suggestions should be to run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available. Then restart your system and see if your exclusions still show in the product. Then test to see if they are working.

Did you set the exclusions for both the Items to Exclude from Scans, and also the Auto protect, Sonar and Download Intelligence?

Re: A few issues...

1. It asked me if I wanted to install the Norton Toolbar, I said no, yet it still installed and asked me if I wanted to enable it. I did not have any previous Norton program in my PC, as I recently went through a full system reload.

2. Yes, I did set them in all. Would be nice not to have to set them so many times, and just set once, for all to do, then maybe add to the others if want to. One main section to do excludes.

Re: A few issues...

Are you using Chrome for your browser? That is the only browser that needs a separate installation for the Toolbar due to the way Google has controlled the addons for their browser. I cannot explain why the process did not honor your request to ignore. I do not use Chrome, so I did not see that prompt. Maybe a Chrome user can comment on this.

Was the system reload a clean Windows install or a factory reset?

Having to set the exclusions for different features is so users can still take advantage of certain security features while bypassing others.

Re: A few issues...

1. I got the request from FireFox and IE.

2. Clean Windows install. There is no factory for a built PC like mine. I don't buy premade, preloaded junk....LOL ;)

Had enough of that dealing with notebooks...LOL

3. Does not really matter, as I did have them set in all. However, I redid a scan, after I went and replaced the file, and it did not delete it this time. I just hope it did not delete anything else, since if look through Norton's History, you cant really do anything but look at basic info. Seems you can't even click anything to use to view the files removed.
