Files seemingly missing from Ghost 15 backup

I'm using Ghost 15.0.1.36526 in Windows 7 Pro.

I did a complete one-time backup of my C (system) drive.

When I checked the recovery point using the recovery point browser, important files appeared to be missing from my Windows User folder.

These folders where empty:

  • Application Data
  • Cookies
  • Local Settings
  • Send to

Is Ghost not recording them, or is the recovery folder just not showing them?

Steve,

How much used space is in your C: drive?

What is the size of your .v2i backup?

Did the recovery point Verify OK? Does it Verify now?

Can you Mount the .v2i as a virtual partition with a drive letter?

Re: Files seemingly missing from Ghost 15 backup

"application data" is not a real folder, it's a junction point.  The actual location of that data is really: C:Users\username\AppData\Roaming

There are a few folders in windows 7 that appear differently  when viewing them "outside" of Windows.

Same thing for cookies, the real location is: AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies

Dave

edit- "Local Settings" would be: C:\Users\username\AppData\Local

Not sure about "send to" I'm not in windows 7 at the moment but check: \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo

Re: Files seemingly missing from Ghost 15 backup

1. My C drive is in its own 53.7 GB partition and consumes a little less than half that space, about 25.4 GB.

2. These are the backup files and their sizes:

  • MYCOMPUTER.sv2i                                                   4 KB
  • MyComputer_C_Drive.v2i                                        11.54 GB
  • MyComputer_System Reserves0-1_Drive.v2i     11.7 MB
  • RPAM_Store.dat                                                         57 KB

3. The backup verified OK after it was made. It checks as valid now.

4. When I mount the .v2i file, all of the "missing" files appear in their proper places.

5. I restarted the recovery point browser, but the files are still "missing."

This inconsistency makes me worry that some or all of these "missing" files will not be restored should I try to restore this backup.

What say you?

Thanks. Everything is OK. Dave gave a good explanation of why the Ghost Browser doesn't see those files. There are no missing files.

Many thanks to both of you. Without this kind of help, we mere mortals would be lost.
