Re: Finder Hangs on startup.

Anyone have advice as to what I need to do to fix this? After further troubleshooting, I found that my liveupdate seemed to download a 28.6 mb file (2 updates) each day I ran it. The finder would hang upon restarting my macbook pro running 10.6.1. I would have to relaunch finder 3-4 times to regain control of the machine. I then decided to unistall Norton using the removal script, and have had no issues since then, so it appears to be related to my Norton install.

Have you since tried reinstalling Norton to see if the problem returns?

Re: Finder Hangs on startup.

A couple of questions…One, what Norton products do you have installed? It looks like you might have Norton Safety Minder (Norton Online Family) installed. At least, I see some strange error messages that look like they might be related to Norton Safety Minder. If that is the case, try just uninstalling Norton Safety Minder and seeing if that helps.

Two, what features do you haved enabled? Do you have Application Blocking turned on, and if so, is the Finder blocked? Try unblocking it.

Three, this is more of a request--can you please take a sample  of the  Finder using Activity Monitor when it is frozen? To do this, launch Activity Monitor (it can be found in Applications -> Utilities) and then double click on the Finder application in the Activity Monitor window. Then click no the Sample button. Copy and paste the sample into a new file, and attach it here so we can take a look.

Thanks,

Re: Finder Hangs on startup.

Hi,

Yes, that was my second attempt at reinstalling. I bought Norton Internet security from the Apple store. I'm not sure if Norton Saftey is part of that? I have been using Norton for as long as I can remember on the PC side and so I bought the mac version when I made the switch. What I found interesting was that the mac installation did not ask for me to generate a norton account, or link my current one, or ask for a serial code of any kind.  So maybe I messed something up. Regardless, not being able to boot and use my laptop without having to send 20 min killing the finder was not something I was looking forward too. After I uninstalled Norton, and the machine started booting up like a champ again, I downloaded Intego's package. It installed smoothly and seems to be working properly. I think for the time, I'll be sticking with that, at least until the mac version is fully patched for osX 10.6.1.

Thank you for attempting to troubleshoot.
