Firefox 17 Live Update does not get the patch 2013.2.2.3

After updating my desktop to FF 17 before the NIS patch was available,I have followed the recent correspondence and waited for the new patch to get the toolbar login Vault working again.  I am running w7, x64, NIS 20.2.0.19.  When I check the firefox addins I have Norton Toolbar 2013.2.2.2 instead of 2013.2.2.3.  So my toolbar is still not filling the login fields.  I have tried numerous live updates, reboots, disabling the current addins.  Nothing delivers me the new patch.  This problem is on my desktop.  My laptop which is running FF16 has received 2013.2.2.3 OK

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Unfortunately the only advice is to keep running LiveUpdate.

You might try clicking on Support - Get Support to run  Autofix to check your installation and fix what it finds.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Firefox 17 Live Update does not get the patch 2013.2.2.3

Hi Chris J,

Prior to going thru the procedure outlined later in this post please run (as peterweb suggested) LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested), until LiveUpdate responds with the specific words "no updates found" as show in the following screen shot.  Please note you may receive a request to Apply a patch - if so sleect Apply Now and let it run.  If NIS dows not reopen after the Patch runs, reboot and continue running LiveUpdate until you see the "no updates found".

Yours is a situation I have come across before in NIS, N360 and NSS with previous FF upgrades. Following the exact procedure that follows has produced the desired results of the NTB appearing in FF. Do not add any addtional steps such as running the Norton Removal Tool, as that may cause you to lose your ID Safe, customised settings and will also remove any other Norton programs you may happen to have installed.

It is highly recommended you export your ID Safe data prior to starting this procedure.  You should notlose it during the procedure - but please export it as a precautionary measure.

Please do the following in the order I list:

Totally uninstall Firefox

Download a fresh copy of Firefox 17.0. from here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/

Install the fresh copy of firefox.

Download a fresh copy of your Norton product from here:

NIS - www.norton.com/nis20

NAV - www.norton.com/nav20

N360 Standard - www.norton.com/n360s_20

N360 Premier - www.norton.com/n360p_20

Remove your Norton product using Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs if you are using XP) - do not run the NRT as you'll want to keep your Identitiy Safe and other settings.

Install the fresh copy of your Norton product. Run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested by LiveUpdate) as many times as necessary for it to respond with the specific words  "no updates found" .

Once all that is done in the order I am asking for you to do it, please check Firefox 17.0 and let us know the version number and also look at "Add-on's" and see if Norton Toolbar 2013.2.2.3 and Norton Vulnerability Protection 11.1.1.5-3 are listed and shown as enabled.

Do you now have the Norton Toolbar in FF 17.0.?

Please let us know how this goes.

Re: Firefox 17 Live Update does not get the patch 2013.2.2.3

Thanks to your clear instructions all is now fixed.  I had to go through the wole procedure as follows:

Reinstall FF 17 again (I had already tried this)

Uninstall NIS

Restart

Identity Safe then reopened!

Reinstall  NIS

16 Updates, Restart

2 Updates, Restart

4 Updates (30MB), Restart

3 Updates, Applied Patch, Explore panel opens

No Updates, 2.2.0.19 in place

FF Started and requested permission to install 2 add ons, restart after each, 2013.2.2.3 and 11.1.1.5-3 in place

NTB working, whole thing took about 50 minutes.

I have experienced issues and delays with NTB each time FF has issued a full new release (starting with FF 4) and since I first started using NTB.  There must be a better way.  In future I would like to be notified when NTB is safe before applying FF updates.  Please pass this on to the appropriate authority.

Thanks a lot for your prompt assistance.

Hi Chris,

There is an announcement made here when the patch for the Norton Toolbar is made available.  Please see the following image for an example.

You may want to go into Firefox Options > Advanced and on the Update tab change the setting to Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them.

Cheers,

Dave

Good idea, Dave, that should stop me getting caught out next time.
