Firefox & Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar

There seems to be an oversight regarding Mozilla Firefox and the Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar.

How to reproduce;

Open Mozilla Firefox (I use 16.0.2)

Login to Facebook

Open YouTube and select a video

Click the Facebook Share button

You'll receieve this:

"Share this site on: You may only share standard web pages. Those that start with http:// or https://"

I think this occurs because Mozilla Firefox decided to hide http: and https:// with certain web addresses.

On Internet Explorer this does not occur because IE displays http:// and https:// in the web address.

Perhaps Symantec can allow Sharing of sites without http:// or https:// in Firefox while using the Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar.

Re: Firefox & Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar

I had some success by changing Firefox's config. But even then it was still a bit iffy.

Any who the change is referred to in this link under "What's New".

This will happen in following scenario. If we try to share any blank page or try to share a webpage before it loads completely.

To avoid this situation, browse to any page and wait until it loads completely, then click on share icon. Now you will be able to share that URL using share option.

Note:This behavior is same in IE,Chrome and Firefox.

Hope this helps.

I am on this page right now and it is fully loaded and I still get that message "Share this site on: You may only share standard web pages. Those that start with http:// or https://".

I found if I edited the Firefox about:config to show http:// it worked the way it should. I have since reverted to the default about:config

On Internet Explorer I have no issues. It has to be this hidden http / https thing that Firefox is doing.

Re: Firefox & Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar

Okay it seems to work fine if I am logged out of Facebook. But as soon as I login to Facebook I get that error message "Share this site on: You may only share standard web pages. Those that start with http:// or https://".

This only happens on Mozilla Firefox. On Internet Explorer everything is fine.

Re: Firefox & Facebook Share button in Norton Toolbar

The problem went away. But to be fair I did switch from Windows 7 to 8.
