Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

I am running the latest version of Google Chrome 64 bit (just updated), and it appears Norton Security Toolbar 2015.5.4.11 is not compatible - when I enable it it appears to be enabled however when I close Chrome and reopen chrome it becomes disabled.  Also because of this Norton Identity Safe 1.0.5 does not work.  I have two computers running windows 10 64 bit and they both exhibit the same behavior.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

Everything was working fine until yesterday.  Two things happened - Microsoft did an update (security fixes, etc.) to the RTM version of Windows 10, plus Google did an update to Chrome.   Since the Norton Toolbar stopped working in Chrome after these two events one of them has to be responsible.  Symantec needs to come up with a patch to fix this.  The only browser the toolbar now works is IE (I also use Firefox 41).

I know it does not help you, sorry.

The Norton Toolbar is still working fine on my Win10 x64 machine with Chrome 32-bit.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

Hello Paul

Norton Security Suite is not listed for the Chrome Toolbar updates. NSS usually lags behind the rest of Norton when it comes to browser updates. The Toolbar listed in that Announcement will not work with NSS. Looks like you are left to work with IE for now.

Thanks.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

It is unfortunate that both Windows and Chrome updated at the same time. Hard to tell which one is responsible.

You could try rolling back the Win 10 updates to see if they are involved with the problem. This will help us diagnose the problem.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

I uninstalled the two Windows 10 "security" updates and it did not change the ability of the Norton Toolbar to stay working properly in Google Chrome.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

I just found a temporary solution to the Norton Toolbar problem!  All I did was disconnect from my Google account.  I did not delete any setting or extensions.  It appears that the act of connecting to the Google account disables the Norton Toolbar.  Anyway it works and I will leave it like this until Symantec comes up with a fix.

I'm glad you came up with a solution for Chrome.

Thanks.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

I signed back in but I turned off sync extensions (leaving everything else synced)  and the Toolbar stays working. So apparently syncing extensions is causing the problem for me.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

None of the above work- Norton Toolbar and Identity Safe won't show in Chrome, although it had been working in the past.

First no Identity Safe in Firefox 41, now now Toolbar or Identity Safe in Chrome- only browser they appear in is IE which I can't stand using-

Signing out of my Google Account is NOT an acceptable solution- the solution is for Norton to get their act together on updating compatibility for their Toolbar and Identity Safe so they work as advertised.

Same problem here, very frustrating.  I hate paying for things that don't work or get fixed quickly.

Re: Google Chrome (64 bit) and Norton Security Toolbar Compatibility

Hello

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your Chrome browser? Have you tried not to synch your browser?

Please checkout this KB article.

If this doesn't help, then try the link on the bottom of that KB. It will bring you to another KB which should help.

Thanks.
