Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

Should Google Chrome's "software_reporter_tool" be removed from my computer because there should only be one (1) virus protection or anti-maleware program running on the same computer?

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

Google Chrome's "software_reporter_tool" is not "anti-maleware" akin to Norton.

Chrome telemetry wants to monitor your Chrome install and report add-ons that Chrome feels will interfere with Chrome.

C:\Users\{user-profile}\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\SwReporter\n.n.n\software_reporter_tool.exe

Although the executable shows as 'software reporter tool', within the properties of the executable shows as 'Software Removal Tool'.

Software Removal Tool ><here> and <here> and <here> has evolved into Chrome Cleanup Tool

Caveat: assuming your 'software_reporter_tool' is
File name: software_reporter_tool.exe
Detection ratio: 0 / 55

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

Google Chrome Software Removal Tool or Chrome Cleanup Tool will help remove browser hijacks. The Chrome Cleanup Tool doesn’t scan for all types of computer viruses. It instead only looks for programs that may cause trouble for Chrome – and they aren’t the typical malware that your antivirus software finds.

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

According to the log file it produces in C:\Users\{user-profile}\AppData\Local\Google\Software Reporter the tool runs weekly for about 20 minutes.

Log records tell you what has been removed.

Its unfortunate that Norton doesn't detect ANY Information about  software_reporter_tool.exe

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

What would you suggest Norton should be detecting about this tool? It is not malicious.

I do see a little pop out from Norton when the tool has been updated.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I get a Norton pop-up that says "software_removal_tool.exe is safe" in green.

Are you just reporting what you see, or do you have a question?

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

Software reporter is a Google Chrome stand alone cleanup tool. It isn't connected to the web and Chrome uses it to recognize programs that may conflict with chrome. Here is a link for a good article on Software Reporter.

Re: Google Chrome "software_reporter_tool"

To delete Software reporter tool.exe in Windows 8 and 8.1 - Go to c: / users / you or the name you use / in upper bar click on "see" and check the ocult itens at right on the bar / then you will see "appdata" (careful) / local / google / and inside you will see "sotware reporter tool" - If you are not able to delete all, go inside the paste and delete one by one, then you can delete the paste - All this must be doing with chrome closed.
