Has Thunderbird email corruption problem from the past been fixed?

I had Norton antivirus until about 5 years ago and had a lot of trouble with the email antivirus.  It apparently checked emails AFTER they were in my inbox, and when it detected a virus, it deleted it in such a way that my Thunderbird inbox was corrupted.  This happened many times.  I switched to Kaspersky and have had no further problems -- they seem to intercept email before it gets into the inbox.  My current ISP offers Norton for free and I was thinking about switching until I began remembering the problems.  I'm just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with email corruption or if this has been fixed.

The issue is the way Thunderbird works.  It keeps all messages in a folder as one single file.  So, if something in the folder needs to be quarantined it can corrupt the whole folder.  This is easily worked around:  just exclude the Inbox from scans and enable the option in TB to let your AV scan incoming messages before they reach the Inbox.

Thank you!  I do have that checked but maybe it wasn't checked in the past.  I agree, the flat file thing Thunderbird uses is lame.
