Help! Looks like services.exe is infected.

Hello.

I have a major problem with my pc. It started with slow internet connection, and I got the message: Peer Networking Grouping is not working.

I read some adwises at internet and performed an combofix scan. It was here I got the message that services.exe is infected.

What can I do?

Now I have also lost internet connection. The message from combofix is:

Use of an advance program, now has extra problem(s).  That is what can happen when users think they know better, ignore the warnings, over and over.  dug a bigger hole.

People have noticed here that I give warnings, but they get ignored,  When I tell users to run programs like Combofix it is in the correct order and even then problems occur, but seeing as I told them to run tools I also fix the problem, by scripting etc.

I will not be touching this system, user is doing his own thing, there is no logging first or steps, just jum right in and now, the system is worse.

A good Lesson

Good Luck.

Re: Help! Looks like services.exe is infected.

Hello.

I am so sorry that I listended to a friend that came to me with the advise to run combofix. I don`t know anything about these programs, so I trusted him.

I did not know this website before, so I am sorry that I tried other adwices before asking for help here.

Can you answer if you think the machine is totaly broken, or can it be fixed?

Re: Help! Looks like services.exe is infected.

Hello! Sorry to hear about your troubles. Since Quads is not going to help you, there are other forums that offer assistance with malware removal, like http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum103.html

I am sure it is possible to get rid of your infection. Also, the machine itself is not "broken" at all. Worse case scenario, you'd have to format and reinstall Windows, if you can't find anyone knowledgeable who can help removing the malware, but it should not be needed with some assistance. But it does remain an option, and while there are some trojans that survive a format, this is not one of them.

Hello, Bombastus.

Thank you for your answer, and your advice how to rapair my pc. Now I have some hope that I can get help in another forum for this problem.

I hope that I can get help here another time, if I need it (hopefully not).

This time I think I maybe have to go to an repair company and pay for it.

Re: Help! Looks like services.exe is infected.

Hi paba1924,

Would like to check, though it might be too late. How did you know that services.exe is infected? Is it because of the tool that you ran? Did you have an antivirus software installed on that computer?

Because Norton has a Norton Power Eraser which is a free tool www.norton.com/virushelp to check if you're computer is really infected with a virus but it will need internet connection so if you can't access the internet in Normal mode, you can try booting up your system in SafeMode with Networking by continuously tapping F8 key on your keyboard right after you press the power button to turn it on. If you can access the internet there, then you can download and run the Norton Power Eraser and check if there are threats that will be detected. NPE can also help you in removing those threats that are identified.
