Here we go again. Another update pulled by Norton

The new update to 22.12 has been pulled from Live Updates.

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-2212-product-update-pulled-back-server

That is why I made this suggestion in Aug 2017.

Come on Norton give us a choice.

Jim, a fix is on the way.

I can say no more except if your Norton is opening and operating as usual, then you have nothing to be concerned about.

What I am concerned about, we don't have a choice to delay a "minor" version update.

There is absolutely no point to delay new patches, becasue they mostly fixes bugs and contains security fixes... unless new patch has bugs and is pulled back... new patches should be pushed to users as soon as they appear.

... Except just about every new patch since 22.x was released has been pulled for one reason or another.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

hopefully  they  get  this  fixed.  Norton had  to be  deleted and  reinstalled  on  my  computer,  because  the  patch  pretty  much  killed  Norton, so it  wouldn't  reload\restart.

Re: Here we go again. Another update pulled by Norton

I understand he frustration caused by an update being pulled, however, all Blogs (Announcements) pertaining to these updates contain the following section (my bold):

2. When will I receive the patch?

As is our standard practice, we are deploying the patch in a phased manner. We have released the patch to randomly selected customers, and will then monitor our telemetry, as well as this forum, for any problems or issues.  Once we have confirmed the effectiveness of the patch, we will make it available to all customers. We will post an update on the Norton Community Forums when we make the patch available to all customers."

So not all users receive this immediately - when it is first released.  There have been times I have received it prior to it being available to all users.  This time it was released at a time I was not online and thus did not receive it and by the time I did get online, he patch had been pulled.

It appears to me, the patch was released to certain customers, Norton's monitoring of the telemetry and this forum disclosed the issue (problem) and Norton did as it intended if problems occurred - they pulled it before all of the customers received it.

That said, I also agree with krusty13:

... Except just about every new patch since 22.x was released has been pulled for one reason or another.

Makes one wonder if QA @ Norton has been cut so thin they can not adequately test the updates prior to their phased release.

Just my 2¢!

Re: Here we go again. Another update pulled by Norton

Well, Norton still supports Windows XP, so by my count, there are now 6 operating systems (not even counting the different Windows 10 builds) that must be tested, with who-knows-how-many different configurations.  I don't think dropping support for any of them would be popular, but doing so would probably make patching and testing less fraught.

Hi PhoneMan:

I've kudo'd your topic Automatic Download of New Version Option in the Product Suggestion board and it looks like Tony Weiss agrees with your suggestion.  According to Mohan_G's post New EAP Build 22.12.0.102 is now Available! in the public beta forum the recently pulled v22.12.0 update has a new protection framework called Symantec Telemetry Interface Component (STIC) and this update would have been a good candidate for a major version change to v23.x.  Norton v22.x was launched in September 2014 and a version change to v23.0.0 would have allowed users to delay delivery of the latest update until any major bugs were fixed (i.e., Settings | Administrative Settings | Automatic Download of New Version | OFF).

SendOfJive:

According to the Become an Early Adopter FAQ Win XP SP3 and Vista SP2 users still aren't eligible to enroll in beta testing.  Perhaps Symantec should re-think that policy.

Re: Here we go again. Another update pulled by Norton

I just turned OFF my Auto Update to keep this new release off my system.

22.12.0.103 is back on Live Updates and a few people have had problems with it killing their subscriptions.

Norton released 22.12.0.104 but 1st reports are mixed. Some have the same problems as 103.

I will wait a while.

Re: Here we go again. Another update pulled by Norton

I got the initial 103 update before it was pulled, but I didn't experience all of the issues that others have experienced. I updated to 104 this morning by running LiveUpdate; no issues with the 104 update have surfaced so far.

Did a live update and updated from 22.12.0.103 to .104, did not have any problems with 103, hope the same will be with the new one.
