High CPU use

Recently, I've noticed sluggish performance on my desktop. Opening task manager shows that N360 is using 99% of the cpu and 128,000K private memory. The only way to stop this is to re-boot. The problem will resurface again during the day. The dashboard says that a full scan was done 5 hrs. previously. Anyone have any ideas or have a solution short of uninstalling and reinstalling? Thanks.

Re: High CPU use

i have the same issue with the recent update and after the restart it become high CPU often @ 50%.
One solution is to set it on silent mode for 1 day and restart your pc. It will log on as silent mode.

Norton have mess up with the background service.

Re: High CPU use

I am having the same problem.

I ran LiveUpdate until I got "Not Required" then shutdown and restarted the PC.

nis.exe, running under SYSTEM account, immediately went to over 90% cpu on restart.

I did this multiple times.

nis.exe is:

Product Version: 22.7.0.76; File Version: 13.1.1.19

Digital Signature Signing Time: June 17, 2016 5:22:46 AM (GMT)

Re: High CPU use

This is happening to me also. Why I came on the forum. Considering how much I pay for this service, I shouldn't have these kinds of issues especially with anti-virus software.

Re: High CPU use

This is happening all too often. After a few minutes of using the computer Norton goes run away and hits 90%+ of CPU. basically nothing else can operate. I lose internet access, and it becomes impossible to close programs. Even when I let it sit after reboot the CPU eventually goes to 100% with Norton over 90%. This is happening across multiple family machines and driving us nuts. If this keeps up we will have to abandon Norton. Given the number of licenses I have for my Macs and PC's I would expect this to be a better tested product. It seems I am chasing issues like this every few months and it is always Norton.

I have tried all the suggestions on the support site with no luck much like everyone else. Is there no one out there that has successfully eradicated this problem?

Re: High CPU use

We've released an Auto-Protect HotFix that includes a fix for high CPU/Disk usage. I recommend that you run LiveUpdate and restart your system as prompted for the hotfix to be properly installed. Once installed, please let us know if you see issues with high CPU/Disk usage. Thanks.

Re: High CPU use

I am having the same problem too!  I've constantly run Live update when I can and haven't found a solution.  I also have had multiple unresolved issues with Norton Security and am disappointed that Power Eraser was run a few times with a Rep by phone who for the first time, was of no help.

Pam Oliver

Have you restarted your computer?

What operating system are you using? If Win 10,  there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
