HOW CAN I BACKUP ENCRYPTED FILES

I was told by Prakash at Norton  (Case number Removed) that the Norton Backup does not backup encrypted files using NORTON 360. Does NORTON make a statement that encrypted files are not backed up? How can I backup encrypted files using Norton360?

Re: HOW CAN I BACKUP ENCRYPTED FILES

Hello Peter. What OS are you using. And do you get a numeric error code with the backup failed message such as in the article below? Are there open programs running such as Outlook at the time of the backup?

Re: HOW CAN I BACKUP ENCRYPTED FILES

SoulAslym,

Thanks for your reply.

Norton 360/Backup was the only program running on two Surface Pro 1s using up to date Windows Pro 10. Both computers stated that Norton was up to date.  On July 2,3,4 a Norton employee - chatter took control of the computers and un-installed Norton and re-installed Norton on the two computers. The first time he ran the backup with the 'new' Norton the message "Backup failed- encrypted files encountered", but  the subsequent backup was successful on both computers. Did the program flag the encrypted files so the backup was successful?    Is  Norton now backing up encrypted files?  I was unable to get the error codes  since there is no message on the right side of the screen "View Log"

Re: HOW CAN I BACKUP ENCRYPTED FILES

Peter, from what I read in the article which I linked to it appears that Norton is extremely intolerant of encryption for whatever reason. Many had stated the subsequent backups took care of their issues. To the best of my knowledge Norton does not backup encrypted files per se!! Subsequent re-runs as stated before seems to do just that. Check one of your backups and see if there are encrypted files included in it. That would answer the question at hand very well.

Cheers,

Re: HOW CAN I BACKUP ENCRYPTED FILES

All responses from Norton state they do not back up encrypted files because when Norton backs up a file the file is encrypted in the backup process. There are other backup programs  that I am using to backup now.
