How do I configure background items?

PROBLEM:
Norton uses way to much of my computers performance in order for Norton to perform it's Performance optimizer.

REQUEST:
I would appreciate it I be permitted to use my (ours now?) computer when I need it and not have to stop what I'm doing and wait until Norton is done with it.

QUESTION:
So, where may I CONFIGURE these background -things- so I can disable the most annoying that run at the most inopportune times? If I am allowed to disable them, I'm certain that the reverse will permit me to enable them, when I don't need my computer.

ASSOCIATED ISSUE:
In the Norton GUI, under Administrative Settings, first line is "Background Tasks" and beside that, is the barely legible font colour of light-light-blue link is "Configure [+]".

Clicking "Configure" does not open a configuration screen, but instead opens a window where one can choose which background program (AKA software, program, script, code, application, app?) to "Click to start job" - not to Configure as the misleading title suggests.

TIA,

iNiC

Re: How do I configure background items?

Hi, INiC. Yep that's the way it's set up. You can run all those tasks manually if you wish at any time

You can disable background tasks in Administrative Settings.

Re: How do I configure background items?

Thanks for those reminders, but I need to disable the Performance enhancer (defrags hdd and deletes IE temp folder - wow!)  so my comp will perform. There is NO setting to disable the Performance enhancer, unless, like few other things, it's there, but disguised as something else maybe?

Others who think they may be able to help will see your lesson for Admin Settings 101, and not respond. Please, only respond with an answer, or question but you just blew any good chances I may have had with getting help. Now I am forced top go to call Support-hell.

Re: How do I configure background items?

iNiC,

You can try the following:

On main page - Settings > Tasks Scheduling > Automatic Tasks Tab > uncheck any tasks you do not desire to have run > Apply

Admin Settings 101???
