How do I delete the unnecessary files

My hard disk is full - I need to clear some space. I have Norton Anti Virus and Utlities Premium on a 64bit Windows 7 PC.

It appears to me a large number of files are continuously accumulating which may not be needed. Eg I have 53Gb of files in the form WCDnnnn.TMP.ZIP

and 4.6Gb in NORTON/APPLE/INSTALLER CACHE/ - - - - - /APPLEAPPLICATIONSUPPORT64.MSI

Can I delete these files? Are there any others I can delete?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Re: How do I delete the unnecessary files

Thanks - but I have carried out a number of those steps, which is how I identified the 53Gb of Norton files.  I should have made clear I need to know specifically if I can delete them. It requires someone with a knowledge of Norton.

Re: How do I delete the unnecessary files

Hello again. Your question was very precise and clear. Likewise were the suggestions. Since you have performed the tasks suggested in the article, those are the "safe" ways for your OS to identify files that CAN be safely removed and remove them. Remove the cache hoard you found using one of the tools linked, and reboot your computer.

Re: How do I delete the unnecessary files

Thanks - but those links don't really address my problem - the only relevant one was to CCCleaner, which knows nothing about Norton.

My file structure is presumably the same as everyone else's - if you go to \ProgramData\Norton\(35digithex)\Nav_22.5.2.15\Nco\ you will see one or two directories with many files WCD4digithex.TMP.ZIP. In my case the \Nco\ directory is 3.45Gb (I made a decimal point error above; this is still a very large amount of space). The 'TMP' in the file name implies to me these are temporary files, and I was under the impression that temporary files were superfluous once they had been used and could be deleted. These files appear to continuously accumulate, and so people using Norton longer than me may have even bigger numbers. This is a sizable amount of space, I should like to recover it if it is redundant.
