Hello @yank

You mention in this thread that the o/p should look at this long, but full of explanations. Sorry, but you forgot to mention the thread.  Thanks.

Maybe you are new to forum etiquette. All caps is shouting. There is no need for that here. We are all here to try to help one another.

In the thread linked to in yank's post, it notes you had to have had the local vault in the past to be able to access this. The files and folders will only be there if you had a local vault before. Many of us have used that process, and it worked well.

And if you cannot find those files, Norton will not help, as they have abandoned any support for the local vault.

Hello

He mentions IDSS in his labels. Perhaps he had a IDSS ID vault.  Don't know if that helps at all.

Thanks.

I've never had so much trouble as I've experienced with new install of Win 10 Pro and a fresh install of Norton Security Premier. I broke my issues into small bundles and resolved them over a that breaking problems into smaller issue often times i've with a upgrade as with Win 10 and Norton Security Premium

Good find floplot

@Thomas_Mier

Is it the standalone Identity Safe you are using, or is it part of a Norton Security product? If the stand alone version, you never had a local vault. The stand alone version only uses the cloud vault.

Re: How do i get the local id safe vault back

I can empathize with Thomas' frustration. I actually had a local vault for years but also had an online one for my IS app on my iPhone and iPad until last weekend when my online safe suddenly disappeared due to an app update. I restored it from my laptop and now suddenly my local vault is gone (and none of the files mentioned in the linked file are on my HD). I too am pissed because it takes several attempts to access my vault online, which is why I opted to retain a local one in the first place. I'm actually now going to need to find another program to keep my passwords, etc. because I don't want to have to be online in order to get my logins/passwords. For internet security and antivirus, Norton is great. As far as their other products go they suck.

Re: How do i get the local id safe vault back

Thomas Mier, On the PC you refreshed:

1- Ensure FAST BOOT is disabled in Windows 10

2- Ensure you are logging into Windows under an account with Admin status

3- Log into your Norton account through the Norton dashboard.

4 Log into your vault in the Norton dashboard as instructed.

Please Note: IDSS standalone backups were more than likely lost during your refresh procedure. If you have a backup copy of your local vault somewhere OTHER than the PC you refreshed you can IMPORT those after doing step #4.

Hello

You can get back your Local Vault if you follow user elsewhere's directions carefully and if you have certain files.

As I indicated those files aren't on my laptop. I may see if I can find them on an old backup.

Re: How do i get the local id safe vault back

Kare_Bear,

Have a look here:

C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Norton Identity Safe Backups\email address used for Norton Account access

and see if there are any backups that were created by IDSS.  They would be in DAT (encrypted format), but could be Import into a newly created Cloud Vault.

Can you confirm which files you are looking for? Is it the local vault files from floplot's link? If you cannot find those on your computer, a backup may help. Or even if you have another computer with a local vault, you can use that too.
