How do I install program with installer that passes but unpacks files that don't?

I'm trying to install Any Video Converter Free on a laptop. I've had it installed for a long time on my desktop and it has never flagged any scans.

The .exe you run to install passes, but during the install Norton flags things and quarantines them causing the install to fail.  I tried excluding the iinstaller .exe from real time protection, but that didn't work.

How do I go about excluding the files the installer is unpacking (or downloading) during the install so I can get this installed?

Thanks,

BGC

Hi, BGC. You may need to exclude each individual file.

Settings > Antivirus > Scans and Risks and scroll down to exclusions.

Yes, I have that.  I tried excluding the installer there but that didn't work.  I guess I'll have to run it over and over and exclude each file as it flags thme, until it stops flagging files.  It's annoying since when it excludes the file it basically crashes the installer.

Also, which setting controls whether a file is excluded for 'reputation'?  I'm tired of having an update to a program flagged for being too new.  Duh, it's an update for crying out loud.

FWIW ~ https://community.norton.com/en/forums/clarification-wsreputation1-detection

Files reported as WS.Reputation.1 may not necessarily be malicious, and may be a false positive detection. Should you be uncertain as to whether a file has been reported correctly, submit the file to https://www.virustotal.com/en/ (link is external) to be scanned with multiple antivirus engines.

If you believe a file has been mistakenly detected by WS.Reputation.1, you can submit a dispute at https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/.

Q: Upon launch AVC Free installer.  Do you uncheck optional offer box?

Re: How do I install program with installer that passes but unpacks files that don't?

All: Please read this. This program DOES indeed install PUP programs, by default A/V scanners, and toolbars. However, you can avoid installing these PUPs by selecting the Customize Install option and not accepting installation of the optional, recommended software. Unpack the zipped file then EXCLUDE the entire contents by file name in the setting "Items to exclude from Auto Protect, SONAR, and Download Intelligence Protection" should work. When running the installer select the Customize Install option and do not accept installation of the optional, recommended software. Please advise how this did or didn't work for you.

The avc dl is an .exe so it can't be unzipped.  I never get to the custom install screen, norton quarantines file(s) that kill the install.
