How Do I Prevent Background Tasks From Running?

I use an online cycling training program called Zwift. When the program is running, Norton automatically starts running background tasks that affect the performance of the program. I clicked on Performance, Settings, Administrative Settings ... found Background Tasks and moved the tab of Idle Time Optimizer to OFF. Yet it continues to run background tasks whenever I am using the training program. How to I disable this and stop Norton from performing any actions while I am using this program?
