How do I use Norton Ghost

I just paid for and downloaded Norton Ghost 15 to a specific folder on my Windows 7 Home Premium PC.  This is what I found in it: [Removed].  From the directions on the screen, I had understood that the program would be installed automatically.

There is no icon on the Desktop.

I clicked on the above file.  All I was presented with was a window wanting to know where I wanted to create the image.  The only choice given was my DVD drive.  I intend to use an external USB hard drive.  I have no intention of burning the image to optical disks at all.

Basically, none of this makes any sense.

Is there any explanation for all of this?

Alfred,

That number is your personal Activation key. Please remove it from your post.

How large is the downloaded file? What are the filenames?

The original downloaded file seems to have vanished,  I can;t find it anywhere.  The size of the folder I referred

 to is424,002KB.

I think the file you had was both the program and recovery disk.  It was asking for a CD because it was a CD image.  It wanted to burn the product disk, not make a system image. Once the disk is burned you can use it to install the program or as a recovery disk.

If you can't find that file, here it is again in 2 parts.

Thats the program above, install that and use your serial number to activate it.

Here is the recovery disk, burn this to a CD

Re: How do I use Norton Ghost

They changed it a while back when you purchase it online from Symantec.  Now you get the ISO of the retail disk that contains both the program and SRD.  When you insert that CD while in windows you get an extra option to install Ghost in addition to the other options of the SRD like driver validation.

The download for the SRD has in it's name "_SrdOnly" and the new one has something like "Srd_and_Product" in it.

If your using Windows 7, by default when you double click an ISO it opens the tool to burn a disk image and the only choice you get for drives are the optical drives on your system.
