How to identify computers in subscription

When I visit my Norton account web page, it used to list the computers on my subscription by the actual computer name associated with the computer system.  Now it just shows my first name and the operating system on the computer in question (or possibly the OS that was on the computer when I signed up for Norton, even if it's changed).  From the web page, I cannot identify which computer is which anymore, so if there is a message telling me one of the three computers "needs attention" I have no idea which one it is.  Is there an easy way to better identify which computer is which on the website?  After I know, I can change the auto-generated names on the site to something better, but first I need to figure out which is which!  Thank you.

They are not "auto generated", are they not the actual "computer names" assigned to the systems when windows was installed?

edit- Look under here to see if they match:

Control panel > System > Advanced System Settings > Computer Name (tab)

Re: How to identify computers in subscription

That USED to be the case before today for me.  I have not changed the machine names of my systems.  They are named in a way I could recognize them.  But when I looked in my Norton account today, the machines were all identifed only by my name, a hyphen, and the operating system (Windows 10 or Windows 8/8.1).  I don't name my systems like that at all.  That's why I couldn't identify them from the website.  I did double-check to ensure that the system names had not been changed and they have not.  The names on the Norton website do not match the computer names, but yes, they used to, and that was great.

Re: How to identify computers in subscription

Hello garyzim

You can do it this way also, but it will take a little while. Turn off all the computers. After a little while, the computers in your Norton Account should then show all the computers as off. Be sure that management is turned on in each computer. Once your Norton Account shows all machines as off, then turn on one of the machines. After a short while, one of the machines should show up as on.. Then you will know which computer it is and at that time you can label the first computer.

Then turn on the 2nd computer and then a 2nd computer should show up in your Norton Account as on. You will then know the 2 machine. You can keep doing this process for each computer and in this way you can rename the listings.

You may also be able to check by looking at the Norton program on each computer and check what it says for the computer name under Help>About>Product Name.

Thanks.

Re: How to identify computers in subscription

Thanks a lot!  I will give that a try when I get home, where at least one of the computer is located.  Appreciate the help and suggestion.  If this works, I'll mark this as "solved".  Still don't know why the names changed on the website in the first place, but at least if there's a workaround, I can go and rename them on the website, and hopefully the names I set will stick.

Hello

The manage.norton.com website and the mynortonaccount.com website are in the process of being redone. They are currently in various degrees of completion.

Thanks.

Re: How to identify computers in subscription

Brilliant !!!

First: I don't see any indication of which computers are on and which are off.  Second: Even if the information were available, how am I to see it if I've turned off all computers?

And WHY?  WHY this insane opacity?

Re: How to identify computers in subscription

Hi 50AmpFuse,

There is an older thread pertaining to this situation, and it has been discussed with Norton admins and to date it appears nothing has changed in spite of the many complaints.

I know, that is no help - perhaps a larger amperage fuse is needed!

@Christy_T

Is there any reason the computer names on the Devices page cannot sync with the Services page?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
