On how Norton Security is packaged/sold year to year

Norton Internet Security (NIS) was packaged/sold year to year with the year in the product name, as in NIS 2012, NIS 2013, etc. Is Norton Security (NS) also packaged/sold year to year with the year in the product name? If yes, what is the current version...NS 2015 or NS 2016?

Re: On how Norton Security is packaged/sold year to year

Norton no longer uses the year in the product name but goes by version numbers.

The current version is 22.6 and they are working on 22.7 which is in Beta.

The initial plan was to use a new major version each release but that has changed.

If my memory is correct here is what happened.

Version 22 was released in late 2014.

Version 22.5 was in 2015 and was the 1st version compatible with Windows 10.

Version 22.6 was released this year and is the latest version.

The boxes changed to try and match the new releases but is very confusing.

Version 22 was called Norton Security and Norton Security with Backup.

Version 22.5 and 22.6 is called Norton Security Standard (1 user). Norton Security Deluxe (5 users) and Norton Security Premium (10 Users + Backup).

Here is the latest information from Norton.

Hope this helps.

Re: On how Norton Security is packaged/sold year to year

Steve,

Jim accurately describes the position about Year versions of Norton products.

What it really boils down these days is that you no longer buy, even in a store, a box with a disk in it -- because the disks never got updated after release to manufacture -- but rather a box with a bit of cardboard inside (!) giving you the activation key and probably some guidance on how to download and install the Norton Security.

So the boxes tend to say Norton Security and which version of the three named and may have different colors and product codes but the "updatedness" what you download to install depends on when you download and not what the box says on it .... In other words the boxes don't get out of date and a licitly purchased key should always activate the most uptodate of the version that you bought even if you delay and there are updated versions since you bought it.

And in fact the latest activation keys will activate some of the previous versions eg NIS NAV or N360 depending on which version of NS you bought. This did not used to be the case.

I hope this clarifies a bit and not confuses and answers the question you may, indirectly, have been asking!

Just to add to the confusion, here in Australia we have a different licensing system in place.

Hello Krusty

At least you  have Norton Security now even if the names and licenses are slightly different.

Thanks.

Re: On how Norton Security is packaged/sold year to year

Thanks Jim,

It appears:

1.) that NS 22.5 (notice point 5) could refer to NS 2015 (notice 5).

2.) that NS 22.6 (notice point 6) could refer to NS 2016 (notice 6).

3.) that NS 22.7 (notice point 7) could refer to NS 2017 (notice 7).

4.) however, in all cases, the packaging does not refer to year.

Again, thanks Jim. Kudos given.

Thanks Hugh,

That was going to be the next question, and you guessed it and clarified it perfectly.

Again, thanks Hugh. Kudos given.

Thanks Steve

Pardon the mistype --  "updatednessw that you download  -- my grammar is better than that.

Re: On how Norton Security is packaged/sold year to year

Norton has always UPGRADED their product, in the past, so my question is has NS w/ BU been upgraded by the new NS Premium?
