how to remove [Norton AntiSpam] from subject line

I use Thunderbird email program and don't want [Norton AntiSpam] to show up in the subject line of my emails. How do I keep it from being put there?

TIA,

Hi bookpage,

Turn off Norton AntiSpam,  In NIS 2012 you will find this under Settings > Network > Message Protection.

Hi,

If you are sending out emails that were identified as spam, correctly or incorrectly, about the only way I've been able to eliminate that phrase is to delete it as I'm composing the forwarded or reply message. It's one of those little thorns that needs fixing but isn't big enough to 'really' irritate me. So I live with it.

Not too helpful but the best I have to offer. We'll be here when you need us. Til then

Re: how to remove [Norton AntiSpam] from subject line

Thank you, Dick, for your input. I am not talking about when I reply or forward an email. I saying that I receive them with that in the subject line and don't want it there.

Is there no way to keep it from being added to the subject?

Hi,

As long as Norton identifies the message as 'spam' it is going to mark it as such. If these are messages that you want to receive and they come from the same, or a known few sources, you can go into the spam folder and indicate that they are not spam. After that they should not get marked and sent to your spam folder.

Hope this helps

Disabling Norton AntiSpam will prevent the tag from being added to future messages that you receive.  As dickevans suggests, for messages that are already tagged, you can edit the subject line when you forward or reply to the message.

I have tried disabling Norton AntiSpam and it still shows up in the subject line.

That should not be possible, as the Norton AntiSpam engine will not be monitoring new incoming messages if it is turned off.  Old messages will still show the [Norton AntiSpam] tag, though if Norton had modified the email header when the message was originally received.

Help me out here.

I have Thunderbird as my email client but I cannot find anti spam integration for Thunderbird. Either in Internet Security or on the product page.

What I see is only integration with the Microsoft email clients.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: how to remove [Norton AntiSpam] from subject line

Hi peterweb,

Norton does not integrate with Thunderbird.  Client integration, though, only has to do with automatically putting messages that have [Norton AntiSpam] in the subject line into the Junk folder and adding the Norton AntiSpam button in the email client.  It does not mean that you cannot use Norton AntiSpam with unsupported clients - it just means that whatever actions you want the client to take will have to be configured by you rather than by Norton.  Both spam filtering, as well as email virus scanning, occur independently of the email client.  So, if you use Thunderbird with Norton AntiSpam enabled, Norton will still append the [Norton AntiSpam] label to any suspected spam.  But instead of going to the Junk Folder, such messages will still end up in your Inbox.  To achieve the same functionality as you get with client integration, you can manually create a message rule in Thunderbird to send all mail with [Norton AntiSpam] in the subject line to the Junk Folder.

Thanks SendOfJive

I appreciate your explanation. I was not worried about being protected because I know Norton would catch and nasties on execution.

Hi peterweb,

As a Thunderbird and Norton user, you might be interested in reading some of the links that I posted earlier for another user.  Assuming your travels with TB have not already led you to them at some point, I'm sure you will find them interesting.

Re: how to remove [Norton AntiSpam] from subject line

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. I guess I will just have to live it it being on the subject line. I have disabled email checking in NIS and [Norton AntiSpam] is still showing up in the subject line.

Again, thank you.
