I can log into Identity Safe from one computer , but not the other, same Norton account, same PW

My password on this machine was correct until I synced a second machine after logging in using my same password.  I can log into Identity Safe on the second machine, but get incorrect password error on this machine.  Both are Dells running XPPro with Norton 360.

Hi ranchroad,

Please tell us which version of N 360 you have.  You can find this information by selecting Support and the About from the Main page of N 360.

Tell us how you "synched" the second machine?  Did you by chance use the Synch Data Online option within the Identity Protection Settings?  If so, you removed the Local Vault you had and now only have an Online Vault.  There is a diffeent password required for an Online Vault than a Local Vault.

Here is a Help page that explains the Sync Data Option.

Please let us know your version and also how you tried to "sync" your systems.

In addition to Yank's questions, did both computers use the same Norton Account ? Some users have set up separate Norton Accounts to be able to store separate online vaults for Identity Safe.

Have you restarted both computers since you set up the second one?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: I can log into Identity Safe from one computer , but not the other, same Norton account, same PW

This is my second reply because I got an authentication error when sending the first one after trying the Spell Check.

Here is a Help page that explains the Sync Data Option.  There is no "Web" in the Settings window.

Both machines are running Norton 360 20.4.0.40, the latest version (I checked) and the second machine has had N360 installed for years, but was in other locations using a different ISP.

I have turned off both machines a couple times since my first post about this problem, which persists.

I can't recall all the details of how I synced the second machine, but remember choosing "merge".  I had to enter my one and only Identity Safe password multiple times, so I don't think I accidentally created a different password on machine #2.  I can't even find the option to sync now on machine #2.

When I try to login to Identity Safe on this machine (#1) it says, I already have a vault, but I don't see that on the second machine, where I can login.  On both machines I see I am logged into my Norton account.

What I can't tell on machine #2 is whether I'm logging into a local or online vault.  I see neither option on either machine:  "I want to log in to my local vault" or I want to log in to my online vault".  The instructions say if you create an online vault, all data in local account is removed, yet local vault (I presume it's local because it only has the original data, not anything from what I had on machine #1) is still there on machine #2 .

Machine #1 had logins and passwords for many more websites than machine #2, so that's what I'd really like to have access to.

Re: I can log into Identity Safe from one computer , but not the other, same Norton account, same PW

Hi ranchroad,

Here's a couple of mages - which one do you have?  This shows all you have is a Local Vault and you ar not logged into your Norton account - which you do not have to be in order to log into the Local Vault.

This image shows that you do in fact have both a Local and an Online Vault.  That you are Logged into your Norton Acount (I blacked my login out) and also give you a selectable option to change your mind and log into your Local Vault.  You must be logged into your Norton Account prior to entering the password for your Online Vault.

The comment you made about Merge got me to thinking  there is a merge option in the Import Function.  This is where you wouold Import your iD Safe Data from a saved file that was Exported previously.  These two functions are different from the sync as you have found out.

Now all that said,it sounds likke you hasve a Local Vault on each machine and it sounds to me like you are trying to have the Local Vaults on each system identical.  If that is what you desire - we can do get you there - but we need to know what you have at resent on each system and what you want.

Had the same problem myself several months ago using win7 & a Vista laptop, id safe worked fine on Vista but not on the Win7 machine, removed & used nrt on Win7 & got that working but then couldn't log into the vault on the Vista, uninstalled & used nrt on Vista just gave me back the original login problem on the Win7. In the end I removed Norton IS & used the nrt on both machines & everything was fine.
