I have both Norton Antivirus 11.1.1 and Symantec Antivirus 10.2.0 on my Mac. Do I need both?

I have both Norton Antivirus 11.1.1 and Symantec Antivirus 10.2.0 on my Mac. Do I need both? I am running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.2, and whenever I connect a memory device two popup windows open up, as if it were being scanned by two antivirus programs. Should I eliminate one of them? Which one? Thank you.

No, I would most definitely not recommend running both of them at once. If you are not required to run one or the other by any system administrator, I would remove Symantec AntiVirus and use Norton AntiVirus 11.1, as it is the newer product.

Note that uninstalling Norton AntiVirus may remove some files used by Symantec AntiVirus, since they are not designed to be installed at the same time. If you encounter any problems, I would recommend just uninstalling everything using the procedures outlined here:

http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080427024142EN&ln=en_US

Scroll down to the section "Download and run RemoveSymantecMacFiles", and follow the instructions.

Also note that SAV 10.2 is not compatible with 10.6.  There is a newer version available (SAV 10.2.3), which is 10.6-compatible, but you would probably need to be a corporate customer to get it (perhaps you are, since you have SAV).  But NAV 11.1 also has Vulnerability Protection, so I would recommend sticking with it (and removing SAV).
