I hear a MOUSE do you???

Whan you use your mouse to complete an input of sorts you get a Chick sound.  For a while now my computer can produce that CLICK sound--- on it's own---- by it's self --- no help from me. Does this indicate that my computer is being used by something or someone in the background?

Clicking sounds in a computer are not good things.  It may be a failing hard drive.   These sounds may help to identify the problem.  If nothing sounds similar, check the fans for dust.

Hi,

Did you installed any themes in your computer and what is the Operating system you are using?

If you had upgraded to the Win7 recently, the sound themes were inbuilt in the Operating system itself.

Re: I hear a MOUSE do you???

Hi Why

As it is a difficult matter to attempt to describe a sound via a forum post ...the great link provided by Delphinium was a great start point .......Thanks Delph!

There are many sounds that can indicate failings on a Desktop or laptop ...and are not easy to diagnose without actually hearing them !

If a sound is " intermittent " and has varied time periods between your hearing the sounds ...it can point to a different source than a sound that is repetitive.... such as the sounds or clicks which can be heard as a hard drive platter or spindle revolves etc....:...or as suggested ...a fan bearing failing , or even a fan blade " ticking " against an internal wiring loom inside a desktop case can give sounds that can be either continous or intermittent !

Is your machine a desktop or laptop please ?  Fan blades catching against wiring is not common in laptops , but more likely on a desktop set up !

If you can clarify a little more , and advise which Operating system you are using and what hardware you have connected (external drives ) if any ?

Any further info you can offer will help us get a better idea of whats' going on......Thanks...Ed

Re: I hear a MOUSE do you???

Sounds like you have a Windows 'Sound Scheme' applied to your 'Menu Commands' to me, I had the same clicking sound on my menu commands when I bought a new mouse once.., it annoyed the hell out of me and so I removed it pretty quick!

I'm still using XP myself and so I'm not sure how you remove it in Win 7, you could try the 'Control Panel' perhaps?!. I would certainly look at that possibility first before worrying too much!

If it is not a sound scheme, then yes, as another user mentioned here it could well be a fan issue. Sometimes you can get a dodgy bearing which makes a ticking/clicking sound from time to time.

Apart from the obvious things above have you checked inside your case for a real Mouse, I've found all sorts inside cases before now????

Re: I hear a MOUSE do you???

Hello again.., I just had another thought and this is just a wild guess! You say the computer makes the clicking sound all by it's self? Could this actually be a key on your keyboard stuck down or perhaps you have the corner of a book resting on your keyboard?

I can tell you a funny story about that scenario! Many years ago whilst copying some text into a word document I had a very strange thing happen.., suddenly my document was being auto filled with minus signs, row after row after row!! OMG someone has taken control of my computer I thought?

Thankfully it was nothing more than a book resting on the corner of my keyboard which I was using for study, DOH!!!! How silly did I feel?!

Just a thought anyway, you never know!
