I keep getting email saying that Norton family browser plug-in was unexpectedly turned off pls help

Virtually every time i turn on my laptop i get an email saying the Norton family browser plug-in has been unexpectedly turned off, and it will automatically turn back on in 5 mins or to restart my laptop. I have only just, in the last two weeks installed the latest version of Norton internet security and reinstalled norton family. My laptop is windows eight and i use IE10....I think. The paw icon in the task bar is usually on, though just to confuse things, as we speak it is not showing in my task bar. This has been happening for about 6months now, and i have been using this product for over three years, without any issue until 6 months ago. Can anyone help me please?

Hi France69,

When you see the message next time, please check the browser that your child uses to see if the add-on for Norton Family is enabled.  You can find it by clicking Tools -> Manage Add-ons in IE if IE is being used.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Katie,

I have checked and Norton Identity Protection and Norton Family BHO are both enabled, though the Norton toolbar is not. Norton vulnerability protection is showing as incompatible. To add further, the task bar is not showing bthe Norton family icon - the paw - as it usually does, though the norton family account details show that its on. Please help as i need to feel safe that my computer is family protected.

Kind regards,

Simon France

Hi Katie,

Rebooted with no difference. To update you, i have not received said email for 3 days now....but, as i say, when i boot up my pc,

the notice saying my pc is being monitored doesn't show anymore, and the 'paw' icon is not displayed in my task bar. To confirm, when i log into Norton Family, it shows as on. How can o sort out this problem Katie?

Simon France.

Hi France69,

Since the Norton Family icon is not showing in the system tray, please reinstall Norton Family on the computer following the steps below.

  • Start your browser.
  • Connect to the Norton Family site (https://onlinefamily.norton.com)
  • Click on ‘Sign in’ button.
  • Enter your Norton Family account Email address and Password
  • Click ‘Sign In’
  • In the bottom left corner of the website (near the footer) Click on ‘Download Norton Family’
  • In the next page loaded, Click on ‘Download’ button.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and install the Norton Family client.

Thanks,

Katie

I am getting the same error. I have the latest version of Norton Family and have the paw in my systems tray. We are using IE.

I keep getting this email saying that Norton was unexpectedly turned off.

It must restart itself because all the monitoring seems to work but the time blocking does not work.

Please can you assist.

Hi bretlyn,

If you get the exact same message, please check the browser that your child uses to see if the add-on for Norton Family is enabled.  You can find it by clicking Tools -> Manage Add-ons in IE if IE is being used.

Thanks,

Katie
