I removed NAV2004 plus it's personal firewall with the Norton removal tool but...

I found in Start>Taskbar & start menu properties>taskbar>hide in active icons>customize Look under 'past items' and I still have the icons sitting there for norton personal firewall and norton Anti virus auto protect.

How do I remove them? It's purely just for cleanliness nothing more nothing less,  they are doing nothing it's just the icons sitting there. Thanks for any pointers on removal.I tried right clicking them to bring up delete but it only brings up always hide, allow etc.

Unfortunately, you can not just edit out some Icons from the Notification Bar.  You can, however reset all the icons / settings for this.  See this MS KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283084 for XP or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945011 for Vista.  Hope this helps.
