I think I was infetced with Locky virus

I was infected with Locky virus. It keeps blocking my files, so each of my photos and similar files cannot be opened! I can also see this _Locky_recover_instructions.txt file when I try to open my files.. Is there a way to recover my data? I am very nervous right now because these files are important to me!

Re: I think I was infetced with Locky virus

Hello Gabriel100

The best advice I can give you is not to try and clean up this ransomeware. Please sign up with one of the free malware removal sites. They have expert removal volunteers who will do their best to help you clean up the malware. Did you back up the files on an external device that isn't connected to your computer? Please go to one of these.

Please see this link for an up to date description of these sites plus the addition of a newly listed site formed by one of our successful malware remover users. The new site is listed first in this link.

Please come back and let us know how you made out.

Thanks.

Could these instructions help me to remove Locky? I have been reading this site for some time and it seems helpful.

Thanks.

Hello Gabriel100

If your Norton product doesn't find and clean the malware, then we usually recommend going to one of the free malware removal sites that I mentioned in my last post to you. We tell the users not to try any self fixes as they can make it harder for the experts to clean up your computer or the self fixes could damage  your computer.

Thanks.

Hello Rainbow

I just found that out when I saw you answer. I said it must be a duplicate.

Thanks.

Re: I think I was infetced with Locky virus

I have a win10 system that was infected with Locky. It has encrypted and renamed all photos and documents and got right by the Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall.

Hi, Mark. No one antivirus will give you 100% guaranteed protection, which is why we suggest the free malware removal forums.

An expert will work with you to help clean your system. Pick one, and stay with that expert until your system is declared clean.

After you get the ransomeware removed:

https://decrypter.emsisoft.com/autolocky

The No More Ransomware Project may be able to remove the ransomeware and decrypt your files. It's highly reputable being a joint project of Eurorpole Cybercrimes Unit, Kaspersky, and Intel Security.

Re: I think I was infetced with Locky virus

I do not think that the aforesaid Reimage is ready for such malware infection at the time of writing. Worse still, the link contains misleading info.

Reimage is recommended to uninstall Locky virus.

Okay... uninstall a computer virus? Then I will show you how to uninstall a Trojan Horse with the help of Windows Control Panel.

Victims would't see any chance to get that risky download of Reimage.

Because...

the ransomware variety I call lock-screen viruses, which don't allow you to use your PC in any way (in normal mode)...

Meanwhile:

Reimage is the only repair-in-place Windows repair service, but at $69.95 per year, you should try other solutions first.
