I would just like user thoughts on the following few questions:

When you post a question on a board in the forum, which do you perfer?  Please feel free to write your own responses, these are just intended to get you thinking.

- A very fast answer by someone who had a lot of posts to their credit because they reply to all the boards and have a little bit of knowledge on all the boards.

- A slower response, which ask questions to make sure the responder knows exactly what is going on with your system and then supplies a response as a possible solution?

- A raipd response that has many links in it with legit info for you to read, but may or may not apply to your situation or supply an answer?

- A slower response that you can tell has been well thought out, well researched and the responder has taken the time to try to understand exactly what you are seeing?

- A response that spells out the suggested solution in a matter that most users (regardless of their technical savy) can understand - rather than a very technical reference that some users would scratch their head reading?

Do you enjoy reading posts with rants, or raves and those speaking down to other users who are trying to help at their level of ability?

Do you learn anything by reading other user's posts/answers and permit the forums to be a learning experience, or do you just post your questions and read nothing else?

Thanks in advance to all who respond and if anyone wants to add questions to be answered by other users - feel free to do so.

With limited time available I try to read in forums here I have some knowledge. In this way I hope to help those who have less and increase mine. Messages that do not help are spam. Rants might be the same as malware.

Re: I would just like user thoughts on the following few questions:

yank, I'd like to see responses that give and seek as much info as possible from the OP, so that the most appropriate solution can be found as quickly as possible.

It would help if all OPs gave us their OS details, and the version of Norton they are running in their initial post.

That gives us a good starting block, from which to proceed.

As well as to have some fields to fill (optional), which might prevent those who are answering to ask usual questions like OS, Norton product, etc...

It would not hurt, I think.

Re: I would just like user thoughts on the following few questions:

I appreciate a well thought-out and researched response that addresses the issue of the post, even if the response is slower.  I read lots of threads to try to learn and I have learned a lot from this forum.  I also don't usually post without having searched on my own for an answer.

I am not that technically savvy, so I prefer answers that most users can understand, but I think answers should be targeted to the individual  OP as much as possible.  Even non-technical people can learn from threads beyond their ability, if only to highlight an issue.

I may be only a little help to others on this forum because I am an average computer user, but I do use what I learn here to help friends and family who are clueless.  So this forum is a way to reach even those who don't read it!

To me this sounds like a SMS message sent from a smartphone to a friend. I just expressed my thoughts on the composition of the sentence. Sorry, no one will be angry.

Re: I would just like user thoughts on the following few questions:

I'm not sure I really want to enter in this conversation, but I will to ask if I posted something wrong?  I am terribly confused and don't understand any of the last 10 or so posts.  But a part of my post was quoted and while the post was given praise, now I don't know what to think.  I only expressed my opinion in answer to the original question.  I didn't mention terms of participation or anything, just answered Yank's question.  And anyway, I don't see that it contradicted any participation guidelines.  What exactly is the problem here?  I don't expect to post in this thread anymore.  But I did think Yank's question was a constructive and legitimate one worthy of discussion.  Am I missing something?

This thread has gone exactly as I anticipated - some honest answers and some rapid responses that make little sense.  You have done nothing wrong with what you posted!
