ID Vault endless loop, again.

Yesterday my laptop with Win-10 Norton’s ID vault would not let me log in.  The endless “Get Started” loop is ongoing.  Chatted with support, they could not fix it.  Then that afternoon it started working okay on its own.  This morning its back to the endless loop again.  Uninstalled Norton’s, installed and still not fixed.  This problem has been going on for over a year and they will not fix it.  What’s up with them?

Is there a way that I can fix it?

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

floplot, you again.  Thanks again.  It just started working again, out of the blue!!!!  Driving me crazy.  The support top guy told me it was something to do with "the server."  Well, that is code for he don't know, maybe.   Anyway, Thursday I replaced the hard drive in my desktop and of course had to revive Norton's.  All was well until the vault endless loop circus, so I forgot what you told me to do and called support. Chatted with tech, he corrected problem;  removed one license, installed and installed Norton's, you know the routine.  All worked well.  Then my laptop got the endless loop disease!!!!

Back to support, no help, three techs not help.  Then a few hours later my vault came back alive, and well again. What do you think?

Anyway, I guess I'll just have to write down all my passwords and use the old, old fashion way whenever one of my PCs takes the endless loop comedy act. BTW, the instructions in your link do not work in that my user name does not appear in the top right.  It just says "sign in."  Well, that too is an endless loop because after I sign in it goes right bact to get started.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Hi dustymars,

Just curious, since your log-in seems to work, then not work, and then work again and you do not appear to be doing anything to stop it, nor fix it.  It is possible that you are having a situation where you can not connect to the Norton Server, or the Norton Server is not working as it should be and if that is the case, the normal answer is to try it again in 24 hours - in hopes it is up and working properly again.

There is the possibility that you may be misunderstanding the instructions that floplot so graciously provided you.

You stated:  " BTW, the instructions in your link do not work in that my user name does not appear in the top right.  It just says "sign in."  Well, that too is an endless loop because after I sign in it goes right bact to get started."

Since your name does not appear in the upper right corner, click on Sign in - you should  see the Norton server spinning and eventually showing your email address used for your Norton Account and a blank password box.  Once you fill in the password for your Norton Account (not your Vault unless they are both the same) you should then see your user name in the upper right hand corner.  After that appears, you should be able to click on Vault is Closed and enter the password for your Vault.

Hopefully this will be of some assistance, and if nothing else verify that you are using the pro[per password for both the sign-in and the vault.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Well, yank, I rebooted and it started working again.  I just upgraded to Win 10 and knew the Norton's vault would cause me grief, but this is getting to be too much.  Last year I asked their support to resolve this stupid problem, but it fell on deaf ears.  If I had not paid for two years I would switch to some other protection system.  Guess they got me, huh?  I realize hacker are crafty, but when Norton's can't give us non hackers a break it tells me the good programmers skipped town to the Apple pad world and left us regular PC folks out to dry.

The support techs could not odder a reasonable explanation to the problem and did not fix it, but it just woke up.  Anyway, after booting up my user name appeared, then I simply signed into the vault as if nothing was wrong.  I just hope in the morning it still works.  My laptop finally started working, who know for how long.  I have other things to do beside F with this stuff..

Thanks anyway, will be back :)

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

I have the same problems with the Vault. On the desk top its ok but with the two lap tops it asks for to create an account even thou I have an account and signed in.

When you look @ the main screen of Norton's you see its ignored Eg it shows 2 help tabs

I log off ( switch user) then restart and it fixes it self & you can open identity safe ok. this issue has now been like it for 3 weeks. I have uninstalled Norton's & reinstalled but still the same problems

As soon as I restart the lap tops the sign in name appears and the vault is ok. We can they put a fix in for this issue as its a real problem for the users of the lap tops.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Hello

Try using a Admin Account and see if that makes any difference. Did  you reinstall the program after moving to Win 10? Also, please turn off automatic renewal if that is turned on.

Thanks.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

No, I just upgraded to Win 10.  The vault worked this morning, but I had to reboot and now it is stuck again.  My user ID will not appear in the upper right no matter what I do.  I logged in on-line safe, but still no user ID. Rebooted, still no workie.   This is getting to be boring.  Not sure how to run Norton's or the vault in Admin mode.  How does this work?

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Hi  guys, it has been a long time since I contributed / to the forums (fora if you are a picky Latin student :) ) The reason for this missive is to ask and to find out - what is really happening? However it is good to see Floplot and Yank still giving solid advices to all who are mystified by the Norton approach to customer service.

I know that this post runs the risk of being re-llacated - but the underlying truth (I believe) of my comments applies to the Endless Loop.

However at the risk of boring you all - here is a little part of my life.

I was ( and I think still am) a devotee of the Norton Vault. It was safe and secure (as much as anything depending on a single password could be), convenient and easy. BUT it did not work withMozilla. The reasons given by both Mozilla and Norton were "security problems". I asked some months ago why Norton and Mozilla could not talk to each other to solve this problem - and never got a reasoned reply from Norton or Mozilla

So (although I am not a fan of the Microsoft mission to take over the world and have me sign into my Microsoft Account to access this that and the other - from syncing to entering my wife's boudoir) I decided to give IE 11 & The Edge yet another try.

I still dislike IE 11 & The Edge, I am not a devotee of Bing and MSN for trying desperately to run my every facet of my life on Windows 10, but, I thought, desperate situations demand desperate solutions.

Hours of work later (getting rid of default search provider Bing / Default Start-up MSN / Bings suggestions for blank tabs etc etc) I got a workable (just) IE 11 & The Edge. Enabled Norton Toolbar and it worked just fine.

Now my questions and thrust are:

If Mozilla can "carry" SaveFrom.net helper as a trusted add-on" with all the caveats expressed by users - why can they not carry Norton Identity Safe?

How come Google Chrome is "allowed" to carry Norton Toolbar with The Vault when the password security situation has been reported by others as not good - although I have no experience or evidience of this.

Why are Norton Gurus and Mozilla Foundation not co-operating to "clear" NIS Vault?

Why do Norton not address - or at least tell us the truth about the Mozilla / Firefox /Norton siuation viz - a - vis the Vault ? Plus re the Endless Loop situation (as a parallel?), why not a clear route to a solution from Norton?

This whole situation parallels that of Intel with their Hi-Definition Driver which has a failure from which it seems to recover regularly (i.e.resolves the problem itself and which users write to Forums (Fora) about and Intel and HP ignore)

or

The Microphone problem with New HP Pavilion Laptops which results in silence with Skyp calls - again lots of correspondence with HP / Realtek /Skype - but - here at least we have contributions from the respective Communities which offer solutions that work.

My point is (Thank the Lord I hear you cry - he is finishing!!) "when will Norton / Mozilla et al take notice of their users and stop just treating them as slightly annoying "Cash Cows" ? WE are the customer  and should be treated as such - after all is it not we who pay Norton Staff their wages?

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

I am on my administrator account, didn't understand the post.  I have done everything this morning but still can't get the stinking vault to work properly.  Just wish I had gone to some other virus protection since they seem to work.  Norton's used to be tops but since this vault problem I wonder if it is worth it.

It worked okay yesterday, but this morning it will just not sing me in, no matter what I do. Am tired of uninstalling and installing it.  Is there anything else I can do?

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Dustymars, sorry you did not understand me - but my real point is highlighted by your post, and that is

WHEN WILL SOMEONE GIVE US SOLUTIONS PLEASE.

Yes Norton did use to be tops (especially in 1966 when I started - many happy hours with Norton Disk Doctor and Norton Undelete) but now I think they just do not care.

I sympathise

Kind regards

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Yeah, I started doing land line internet sometime in the mid-1970's.  Before that, while in the Air Force (1960-68) at one base their base ops used Ksr-8's to communicate with SAC Hq and they would sent messages to each other.  That was Internet #1 :)   Then I bought a Osborne and hooked up with Norton sometime in the late 1970's when he produced some small PC utilities.  Then to anti-virus.  I tried McAfee for one years hen back to Norton's.

Anyway, while fixing a Windows Live Mail problem in my new free Windows 10 :)....:(, I rebooted several times then for the fun of it I signed onto Norton's.  Hum, my user ID popped up and I was able to sign in to the vault.  Since my laptop is still doping the vault, signed in that is, I hope, and hope that this things follows suit :)

Anyway, thanks to all here for he help.  Will probably be back :(  asking for cheese with my whine :)

Hello weeshus

In case you didn't know, Gurus are not Symantec Employees. I guess you didn't check out the Announcements on top of the Forum There are a few Announcements about what has been going on  re: the Norton Toolbar and Firefox. Please read this thread for the latest information about what has been going on.

You mention Windows 10. Have you disabled the Fast Startup feature?

If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Well, it's back; endless loop came back Sunday morning and this morning as well.  If one loved rebooting a lot then Norton's will work, sometimes.  I so wish I had not paid two years for thus crap.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Hello Dustymars

You  haven't answered the question about turning off Fast Startup? When you went to Windows 10, did you reinstall your Norton product?

Thanks.

Re: ID Vault endless loop, again.

Fast Startup is off and I did reinstall; but that is getting old.  This morning I just signed out then signed in then it worked okay.  That too is getting old.  Unstable software I call it.  Other wise Norton's works fine; just wish they would fix the vault.
