Identity Safe closing with browser session

The new Identity Safe seems to close every time I close my Chrome browser.  When I open a new browser session, I have to log in again to Identity Safe.  The previous version seemed to remain open across browser sessions.

Is there a way to keep Identity Safe open all the time or for an extended period of time?  I've tried some of the options like "close vault after 45 minutes of inactivity", but that option does not seem to work - the vault closes when the browser closes.

Re: Identity Safe closing with browser session

Yesss! That's good point...I'm also annoyed the fact that I need to log in every single time I close the browser. There should be option to set time limit of inactivity like 15 min or 30 min like it was before.

Please bring back this feature to the next update of Identity Safe extension.

Thanks in advance!

Hello

The ID Safe closes every time  you close the browser for security reasons.

Have a Nice Day and

Thanks.

Re: Identity Safe closing with browser session

I'm not so sure it is for "security reasons" as it is for "ease of implementation".  The ID Safe remains open via the Norton Security desktop interface.  Also, under Identity Safe settings, there is an option to close the vault after x minutes of inactivity, where x = 15, 30, or 45 minutes; however, this option seems to have no effect.

This setting is for a local vault. It does not carry over to the Online/Cloud vaults that Norton is trying to mover all users to.

With the latest version of the ID Safe extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, there is no longer any access to a local vault. The only way to use Local is by using E.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Identity Safe closing with browser session

I am not sure if I'd call this a "solution" to my problem, but at least it is a workaround for the Chrome browser.

  1. Under Chrome settings, open the Advanced section and go to the System group of settings.
  2. Under the System group, there is an option to "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed".  Enable this option.

Now, when you close Chrome, you will see a Chrome icon in the system tray.  The Identity Safe vault is still running and is open in the background.  When you open the Chrome browser again, the Identity Safe vault will remain open and functional.

Yes - This solution works for maintaining the Vault state between browser invocations (sessions) ---

However - Be aware that some Norton updates (particularly those usually requiring a system restart,) during the course of their installation(s) may prompt you to close any currently open (active) browser sessions.

This prompting can be a little confusing if you don't happen to currently have a (foreground) browser session open.

To proceed with the update installation you'll need to locate the Chrome background instance (Chrome icon) in the Windows Task Tray - Right click it - and select the Exit option in the displayed process controls menu.

The Norton installer will then automatically proceed with applying the product update.

Cheers!

Re: Identity Safe closing with browser session

Yes, avjohnnie, I ran into that case this morning!

When I ran LiveUpdate, there was a patch that had to be applied.  It requested that Chrome be closed in order to apply the patch.  I was able to right-click the Chrome icon in the system tray and select "Exit" from the context menu.  After the patch was applied, I restarted Chrome, logged into the Identity Safe, then closed the browser session.  Chrome with ID Safe continued to run in the background.

Re: Identity Safe closing with browser session

Hello Randy

Thanks for sharing your discovery and Johnnie for pointing out what needs to be remembered when using it. I wonder if the same thing would work for the Firefox and Edge Extensions?

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Thank you Randy!    I had just posted a strenuous  objection to this issue in a couple of other threads.   guess I'll have to reply to my own threads now!
