IDLE SCAN & EXT HDD

Hi, All,

Can any one let me know if the IDLE TIME SCAN does scan USB External Drives?  Or only scan C drive.

I have 2 Ext. HDD that is attached all the time to my PC, but I noticed that there isn't any ways for me to know if IDLE TIME SCAN will also scan external HDD.

Do I need to perform manual CUSTOM SCANS for EXTERNAL HDD

Thank you

Re: IDLE SCAN & EXT HDD

Hi Sea_Monster,

Norton 2009 program keeps your computer secure from ongoing threats by automatically running scans on your computer by using the Idle Time Scan feature. Idle Time Scan detects the time when you do not use your computer and intelligently runs scans depending on the scan history of your computer. Idle Time Scan automatically detects the idle state of your computer and runs Quick Scan and Full System Scan.

  • Quick Scan to scan the areas of your computer that are often targeted by viruses
  • Full System Scan to examine your computer thoroughly

If the Idle Time Scan runs a Full System Scan, it will definitely scan you external HDD. It will be an added protection if you use a custom scan for external HDDs. Also, Auto-Protect scans all files that are received from any source, such as the Internet, removable disks, or email attachments. Auto-Protect scans files for viruses, Trojan horses, and worms any time that the files are accessed, such as when they are copied, moved, run, or opened. Auto-Protect intercepts any run, open, or create activity and scans the file before allowing the action to continue. These scans are transparent to the user and have little, if any, noticeable effect on system performance.

Just adding to what Yogesh has said -- I have a Seagate external USB drive with a light bar on it and when the computer is idle that often lights up so I assume that Norton is indeed scanning it since I've nothing else I can think of on my computer that I can think of that would do that.

Re: IDLE SCAN & EXT HDD

Thank you both...... At least I can have an option to make a custom scan.
