IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

I'm using the latest version of NIS (22..0.142) with IE11. Recently I noticed that Microsoft had changed the login screen for outlook.com. IDsafe automatically fills in my login details as it has always done, but when I hit "Sign in", I get the following:

Please enter your phone number, or your email address in the format someone@example.com

and:

Please enter the password for your Microsoft account

That is, Outlook is not accepting what IDsafe has autofilled. If I disable the vault and type in the login details manually, then it works ok.

I've tried deleting my outlook.com details from the online vault, and then getting IDsafe to save them when I log into outlook again, but it makes no difference - if I log out of outlook and login again with the vault open, I still get the same error messages pop up after trying to sign in.

There is still the curiosity that IDsafe seems to enter my login details on top of the initial prompting text ("Email or phone" and "Password") in the login and password boxes, rather than just replacing that text, but that has always been the case when autofilling my outlook.com login details. I don't know if this has something to do with it.

So, has anyone else found that IDsafe doesn't seem to work properly with the new outlook.com login screen?

This, of course, on top of the fact that IE11 seems to have started loading and running extremely slowly during the past week or so! (Thank you Microsoft for fixing things when they ain't broke).

I am having the same problem.  The thing is all other sites eg facebook are autocompleting and working perfectly so it seems exclusive to outlook. You can access outlook if you manually enter your id and password!

Having the same issues with the outlook login screen? all my other logins work apart from outlook? looking for a fix????

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

I am having the same issue exactly as described.  Only way to get into the new Outlook conversion from Hotmail is to turn off Norton IDsafe.

Has anyone tried to Report this to Norton?

Navigate to the log-in URL, select Options drop down and the Report an issue with this site.

Fill out the form and hit Send Feedback.

Already reported!

Been online with Symantec tech support since 17.49hrs trying to rectify the matter,

Now waiting to be transferred to a senior tech, i'm still thinking it's a Microsoft issue with their outlook login page?

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

I'm having the problem too with Outlook.com, Live.com and Hotmail.com.

This isn't critical, but after Identity Safe enters the Username/Password, if I delete the final character of each, then replace those characters with the correct characters, it works.  Additionally, where the Username characters are gibberish, after deleting the final character, they're legible.

I've tried deleting the entry from Identity Safe and recreating it - no joy.

I've chatted with MS, but no resolution - they sent me to their tech support experts at

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contact/menu/hardware/windowspc/ts/

I haven't gotten to them yet, but if all other entries are working, then I'm guessing MS is having the problem.

It seems MS has changed something in the way logins are handled. Those having this problem need to report the site as Yank noted above. This will notify the ID Safe team to have a look at the new site log ins.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

I've now reported this to Norton. Hopefully they will do something about it - unlike the last issue I reported when absolutely nothing happened other than the automatic acknowledgment of my report.

I have just spent 35 minutes with a Norton tech controlling my computer. In the end she said the problem is definitely with Microsoft and that they need to be contacted.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

I too am having the same problem:

I created this thread in the MS Community http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/feedback/forum/fdbk_commsite-bug/problems-logging-into-the-communitymailmicrosoft/bdda8099-383e-4706-8351-d2b1294bd990 but only 25 hours ago so it's probably too soon to expect a reply.

I thought at first that MS had changed the 'address' of the Log-in page but they haven't, but they have changed the screen - the two mobile devices are no longer shown.

Although I can't prove it, I think it was caused by the Maintenance work done by MS a few days ago. I understand that it wasn't only the Forum site that they worked on.

FWIW someone has reported the same problem on tenforums: http://www.tenforums.com/user-accounts-family-safety/45067-login-problem.html

@Toyman. That link will probably send you to the MS forum in the end as chatting on-line doesn't appear to have helped you!

A known MS expert, ZigZag3143 has replied to my thread there:

It is probably not the site maintenance.  It appears your MSA has been migrated to the new format (called Outlook Mail) and that is the new log on screen.

***As to Nortons issue with the new format that is probably best discussed with Norton.

There is in progress an update to Outlook email that lets features a refined inbox, an upgraded calendar and more.

The update was being rolled out in Preview and now is being released to the public and is called Outlook Mail (or Outlook Email), it is the first of many innovations coming as Microsoft upgrades Outlook.com to a new Office 365-based infrastructure.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Individual web sites have different ways of handling their log in screens. The username field may be named one thing  on one site, and another name on another site. If a site decides to change the name of the field in their page coding, then password managers need to change the information for that specific web site. This is just one example of a change that can affect password managers.

The password managers have no way of knowing if a change like this has been made unless users notify them. Hence our suggestions to report the site through the ID Safe feature noted above.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

FWIW I asked if the new Outlook Mail will be web-based. These are the two replies from experts there:

"Outlook.com will still be Outlook.com and web-based but it will be named Outlook Mail, which has absolutely nothing to do with Office Outlook, the program you install on a PC. It will be an Exchange mailbox instead of whatever platform the "old" Outlook.com was using."

"Outlook Mail (or Outlook Email) is not the same as the Office 2016 Outlook program (MS just keeps re-using the same names to enhance the confusion. It's still website based like before.)"

Not a solution but a convenient workaround.  Place the cursor in the ID field.  Backspace the "m" in ".com".  Then, retype the "m" to complete "com".  Next, place the cursor in the password field.  Type any letter onto the end of the password.  (I use "m" there, also.)  Then, again, backspace the "m" to remove it.  Hit enter and you're there.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

I have the exact same problem with the new "outlook.com" login screen and the "my Rogers" login screen. The above workaround works for both sites. Rather suspicious me thinks. Or is that the plot thickening? For the longest time now the user id input space on outlook.com is not being cleared and filled by the user id from Norton Id Safe It looks like one overwrites the other and you get an unreadable result. As soon as the last letter of user id is deleted and retyped the background userid  disappears and the new one is clearly read since there is no longer an overwriting situation. I am not convinced that there is not a problem on both MS and Norton sides here.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

If all your other logins are still working correctly, it still sounds like the individual web sites have changed something on their login pages.

Reporting the sites to Norton is the only way to let them know about the issue.

That Robert Dean found what is happening just helps Norton figure out what is going on at those sites.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

The workaround that Robert Dean suggests has worked in the past on other websites where Norton's autofill login has not been accepted on occasions. It's not the answer but nevertheless a very handy workaround while Norton and/or Microsoft figure out what's going on.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Here is a simpler work around...   Place Cursor at the end of the ID field name and Hit the Space Bar...   Then at the end of the Password place the cursor there and type any character, I use the space bar, then backspace and press enter...   It saves you one step but works fine for now...

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Hello

The Outlook.com sign in page looks like the other Microsoft sign in pages. Microsoft changed their sign in page and you people who use the ID Safe need to use the feedback page in the program to notify the Team about the change so that they can fix the auto-fillin part of the program.  They don't know about the issues unless you let them know. If you use other Microsoft sign in pages, check them out also now so they can fix it. Let's get it fixed now before the new idsafe comes out.

Thanks.

Hi Floplot. Have you a timescale on when the new ID Safe is due for release? I presume that everyone here who reported the issue received an email like this one that I've just received:

Dear Norton Customer,

Thank you for using Norton Identity Safe.

We received your URL submission, https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0, on 4-Apr-2016, citing Identity Safe login capture or fill issues.

We are working on a resolution. Once the issue is resolved, we will send you a follow-up email with instructions on how to verify the fix.

Note - It may take anywhere from ten days to eight weeks to resolve, depending on the design of the Web site you submitted.

Thank you for your support and patience,

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Hello Taffy

I don't think getting the auto-fill-in of Outlook.com and the other Microsoft sites to work correctly has anything to do with the construction of the new ID Safe. There are always sites that need to be fixed. There is a listing up in the Announcements on top of this Forum that gives the list of sites which were fixed the last time they gave out the list.

There is also on top of this Forum a thread started by Tony about the Status of the Firefox compatibility of the Norton Toolbar.

Here are the 2 threads I was referring to:

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Hi Flopot. Re "I don't think getting the auto-fill-in of Outlook.com and the other Microsoft sites to work correctly has anything to do with the construction of the new ID Safe." I probably expressed myself badly - what I was saying was that those of us with the sign-in problem now know it's because of Microsoft's changes to the Log-in page, that we've reported it and we've been told that it could take 10 days to 8 weeks to be resolved by Norton.

So what I meant was as there's a new version of IDSafe on the blocks, is it likely/due to be introduced within that "10 days to 8 weeks" (in which case the sign-in problem will continue)?

Having said that, it's no big deal - the workaround is a very quick fix for me!

By the way, it was on a very early post of mine here some years ago that I reported that problem viz. when the Microsoft sign-in screen comes up, the two windows are populated by ID Safe and password (or whatever), and that those words stay there after ID Safe has populated. In fact, in my experience it's always been that jumble, the only difference being that the ID Safe details got us connected - until now!

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

With all due respect it looks to me like there is a lot of symptom solving going on here. The root cause of these ongoing difficulties is perhaps still hidden from sight. Is it not possible to adhere to and or develop a standard login protocol that all login page developers and Norton Id safe developers could design and test to?

I learned at Motorola that designing to standards is a very worthwhile exercise, especially where communications are involved.

It would, I think, save a lot of redesign and end user work around time not to mention the frustration involved.

Re: IDsafe doesn't work with new outlook.com login screen

Well, I thought Norton's fix had worked, but it's still not quite there yet.

I have a number of outlook.com email addresses that IDsafe holds the login ids and passwords for. If I select one of the others from Norton's "Multiple logins" bar (i.e. not the email address that comes up when I open the outlook.com login page), IDsafe appears to fill in the appropriate login id and password correctly. However, when I then click "Sign In" I get an error message in red - "That password is incorrect. Make sure you're using the password for your Microsoft account".

If I then click "Sign In" immediately a second time (without changing the login id or password that IDsafe has already filled in) then it works. So there is still a problem with signing into outlook.com after IDsafe fills in the login details.

This happens with IE11 on both my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers.

Note that if I sign in to the email address that comes up when I first open the outlook.com login page, then it works ok.
