IE11 windows10 slows or crashes with Norton Toolbar enabled

Hi everyone, new to Forum but cant find the answer to this online or on the forum at present. Have had the problem of IE11 running very slow or crashing for a long time.I had never linked it with being a problem with Norton Toolbar App till I read an old post from "Tedunia" dated 26 March 2017 online. This was about  exactly the same problem and how disabling the Norton Toolbar was a short term fix that was then supposedly cured with an Norton HOTFIX but the thread was closed. I can confirm disabling my Norton Toolbar does fix IE11 but then I need to enable it again for Password manager and Safe Web. Am I the only one with this problem or is there a simple fix I have missed ?

Hello Xantia

Have you disabled Fast Startup in Power Settings and then restarted?

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.

Re: IE11 windows10 slows or crashes with Norton Toolbar enabled

Hello floplot,

Thank you for your reply, I am sorry to report that disabling fast start-up did not improve things.

However you have made me look at my problem in more detail. When I open IE it does load, but my home page is Google and it is that which is very slow to respond or will not respond and crashes.

If I disable Norton Toolbar every thing loads fine and can get an instant response. This also must be taking a lot of the PC's  processing power as I can not get a response to any other inputs or selections till Google has loaded. When it does finally load it seems to stay stable till the next time I start my PC with Norton Toolbar enabled.

Sorry if I led you down the wrong path with my post but am not very good when it comes to computers. If you or others on the Forum have a simple fix I would be pleased to hear from you.

Regards to you all over this festive season.

Re: IE11 windows10 slows or crashes with Norton Toolbar enabled

Hi everyone,

I think I have narrowed the search for why Google on IE is slow or crashes on Windows 10 with Norton Toolbar enabled on power up. It seems to be linked with the password manager automatically logging in with my Norton account to give me access for my cloud vault Log in, and all the time this takes. This seems to cause some conflict with IE that is trying to load my home page, Google search. If I start to type in a search into Google before the cloud vault seems to have loaded it freezes or crashes Google.

As I said in my last post if I disable Norton Toolbar before power up everything works fine. If I then enable Norton Toolbar after GoogIe has loaded I have to Log into my Norton account manually on vault selection.

I guess this problem has been going on since Norton recommended I change to the cloud based vault but have not linked the two. However I don't see any other IE members on the forum with this problem or any information from Norton about this so It may still be a problem with my PC.

Once again if anyone knows what the problem is or has a fix please let me know ?

Kind Regards to you all.

@Xantia

Have you tried to change your Home Page to a different site?  Just curious if possibly a setting for Google site may be causing  conflict.

Re: IE11 windows10 slows or crashes with Norton Toolbar enabled

Hello yank,

Thank you for your reply, and am pleased to report your idea worked like magic. I changed my home page to Yahoo rather than Google and on power up I did an instant search with no freezing or crashes. The Norton Toolbar also appeared as soon as Yahoo loaded, where on Google I had a double IE one at first, then the Norton Toolbar would load in place of one of them. The password vault did not like me trying to open it too soon and would go through the Norton account verification, then vault password, which was the same as before now its a cloud vault. However if you gave IE time it came good and Automatically logged into my Norton account  and I only needed my vault password to open it. An all round success !,

Yank,thank you for your time and dedication to this Forum.

PS. Have now changed back to Google as my home page and its also working like magic again. If you have the time I am curios to know what you feel the problem was?

@Xantia asked:

"If you have the time I am curios to know what you feel the problem was?"

 I like to use an old saying in cases like this where things magically get fixed:  " To err is human, to foul up this bad takes a computer." LOL

As is said, what first came to my mind was perhaps a setting in Google was causing a conflict between the NTB extension) and Google.  I was thinking maybe something in the advanced settings regarding saving of log-ins or perhaps something in cache, especially since things were fine with a change of Home Page and then a return to Google as Home Page worked OK.

I really don't know what exactly caused it, but am glad my suggestion worked.

Have a great New Year.
