Re: is iexplorer.exe a virus?????????

Hi GreatNate1312,

Kindly check and confirm whether it is iexplore.exe or iexplorer.exe.

The iexplore.exe file is referred to as the executable file of Microsoft Internet Explorer. The graphical user interface of the iexplore.exe file is composed of graphical Internet pages viewed. Iexplore.exe is the Web browser that connects to the Internet when a user enters a URL in the address bar found on its GUI. This program is a non-essential process, but should not be terminated unless suspected to be causing problems. You can allow that iexplore.exe to access the Internet.

The iexplorer.exe could be a process which belongs to a trojan. To check whether any programs is accessed by some threat, download Hijackthis:

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download

You need download the third in the list (Excutable), install it and click "Do a system scan and save a log". Then open the log in Notepad. Either post the log in this same message board or send it as a private message to me.

Also, download/install Malwarebytes Antimalware program, reboot your computer to Safe mode and then run a full system scan from Malwarrebytes. Click Malwarebytes AntiMalware to download it, it's a free download software which may help you in detecting removing such threats

GreatNate1312,

Many Thanks for confirming!

No need to worry if it is iexplore.exe. As I posted earlier, it is the executable responsible for the working of your browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer and it will be running when you access the Internet using Internet Explorer(You can check this in TaskManager). Simply, allow the iexplore.exe to access the Internet when you get the alert from Firewall.

Note that explorer.exe is not the same file as being discussed here which is iexplore.exe

Explore.exe is the file for the Windows file manager.

Re: is iexplorer.exe a virus?????????

Hi NY1986,

Windows Explorer(explorer.exe) is a file manager application that is included with releases of the Microsoft Windows operating system from Windows 95 onwards. It provides a graphical user interface for accessing the file systems. It is also the component of the operating system that presents the user interface on the monitor and enables the user to control the computer. It is sometimes referred to as the Windows Shell, or simply “Explorer”. This is the user shell, which we see as the familiar taskbar, desktop, and so on. This process isn't as vital to the running of Windows as you might expect, and can be stopped (and restarted) from Task Manager, usually with no negative side effects on the system. The explorer.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows. In other cases, explorer.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm. In your case, as the explorer.exe is running from C:\Windows\System32 folder, you should check it immediately. Run LiveUpdate from your Norton program until you see the message that no more updates are available and then run a full system scan.

Re: is iexplorer.exe a virus?????????

NU1986,

If the iexplore.exe runs from Program Files\Microsoft Internet Explorer, then no need to worry as it is the executable for the browser. Whenever you use Internet Explorer and connect to internet, this iexplore.exe will be running in the background. You can find more details of this in my first post in this thread.
