Most websites load completely, however, one does not display images. Why? How do I make them viewable?

Hello goblue771

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

What images are you referring to? Do you mean in this Forum? If you do, here is how to do it. After you post an image in the Forum, it has to be moderated first.

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-post-image-forums-0

If you mean images some where else, please explain what you mean and also some information about your computer and Norton program involved.

Please come back and let us know what you mean if I haven't answered your question. Thanks.

Re: Images not displaying

I mean the images on that particular site: http://www.ffgcomchurch.org/

I'm using a Gateway with an AMD E-1 1500 APU.I'm using the Security Suite that I downloaded from Comcast. Is that the info you want?

Re: Images not displaying

Hello GoBlue

I just checked the website and I can see the images ok on the main page. Do you have Flash Player installed and have the newest version installed. You can go over your browser settings since we just got windows updates yesterday.  You can also contact the church and ask them what you need in order to see the pictures. Do you have any other security program installed now?

Re: Images not displaying

Other sites display images - I have the current version of Flash installed. Norton Security Suite is my one & only. This problem (and it could be a BIG problem - I am the substitute webmaster: if our regular webmaster cannot do the job for awhile, it's up to me!! Would be tough to update the slideshows if I couldn't see them...) did not exist prior to getting Norton. I used the free version of AVG before. This Suite does so much more - unfortunately, it seems to be doing too much.

Re: Images not displaying

This site was created using Wix. I just searched for Wix sites, and none of them displayed images, either! Could it be that Norton & Wix just "don't play well together?"

Re: Images not displaying

FWIW ~ I can view wix .com and church site....images.  Which browser and how did you remove AVG
IE & FF & Chrome = view site no issue...

Re: Images not displaying

I don't think it has anything to do with Norton, I'm sorry to say I think it's a problem on your site.

Using XP and Internet explorer I can't view the site, I get a "stack overflow" error.

Using Firefox, I can see the page but navigation is slow, trying to scroll down is erratic like it's bogged down.

Re: Images not displaying

I'm always suspicious of dismissing a problem as "coincidence." The facts of the matter are that

1) This problem did not exist prior to the download of the Norton Security Suite

and

2) This problem commenced immediately after I installed the Norton Security Suite.

It is thus possible, but not at all likely that Norton is not culpable.  It's NOT solely my browser, nor anything on my system. It's probably some sort of interaction involving Norton & Firefox, and possibly Wix. Perhaps I should try using a different browser? I tried using Chrome once - it was full of malware! Maybe Norton would exterminate those bugs & kill the worms?!?

Re: Images not displaying

Firefox is my primary.  Once, I allow a slew of scripts.  Church site opened normal.

How did you uninstall AVG.   You're sure only Church site is a problem ... ?
Have you cleared browser cache ....

Re: Images not displaying

I used the control panel process to uninstall AVG. I also TRIED (free 30-day trial) stopZILLA - uninstalled it similarly, via Windows.

Caches are cleared automatically in Windows now - versions including and later than 7.

You wrote: "Once, I allow a slew of scripts.  Church site opened normal." I'm not sure I understand - I should run some scripts? Where do I find these scripts? Or have I completely missed the point?

Re: Images not displaying

Yeah, recommended protocol before Norton product install is to properly remove 'other' security offerings.  AVG and STOPzilla AFAIK have removal Tools ....and may have vendor specific removal procedures.   Just a thought....

I have to allow scripts as I run NoScript

Re: Images not displaying

OIC.

Good thought - thanks. It certainly could be that there are some pieces of AVG or stopZILLA still on my disc. I'll look for vendor-specific uninstall routines.

Re: Images not displaying

I'm mobile right now on Safari via iOS. The site is very slow loading. It does seem to rely on Flash Player to load images. Try using Internet Explorer and see if you can see the site. Also make sure you're using Firefox 38.0.1 if you're using Firefox 38. There was a fix related to images in 38.0.1.

Re: Images not displaying

Thanks for replying.

I checked - am using 38.0.1

The site does not display with IE, either.

Perhaps Chrome will work - I'll try it.

Re: Images not displaying

I tried both Firefox and Internet Explorer and it works as expected.

Firefox 38.0.1;

Internet Explorer 11;

I'm using Norton Security (current version).

I can't tell you if it's caused by the Norton Security Suite from your ISP since my ISP doesn't provide Norton. But you may want to visit AVG's and stopZilla's website and locate the removal tool for both products you've used from them.

You may also want to try renewing your WAN I.P. address (this is a long shot).

Re: Images not displaying

Another good idea, SG. Thanks. I'll try what you suggest.

However, I'm leaning towards believing that it's a firewall issue: no Wix-created site displays for me - something is blocking them. Hopefully, I can get a knowledgeable & helpful Norton techie to tell me how to safely reconfigure the one they installed

Re: Images not displaying

I'm not familiar with Norton Security Suite. But with Norton Security you would;

Open Norton, click settings, click firewall, under general settings, smart firewall look for Firewall Reset and click [+]Reset.

Re: Images not displaying

It seems it might be something on your computer or some settings on your computer that is affecting your viewing issue, as others using Norton and Firefox have no issues.

The AVG removal utility can be found here.  Be sure to choose 32 or 64 bit version depending on your OS.

Instructions for stopZilla can be found here.

You need to do the uninstall routines, then restart your computer to complete the uninstalls.

Re: Images not displaying

Hello

After the uninstalls with the necessary tools, it would then be a good idea to use the remove and reinstall tool to get a clean install of Norton after those other security programs are completely removed.

Regarding the remove and reinstall tool.

As goblue771 is using the Comcast Norton Suite, it might be best for our Comcast guru @yank to comment here. He has found that although the NRNR is supposed to have a Comcast version, it does not always go smoothly.

Re: Images not displaying

Hi all,

I tired using my Norton Security Suite from Comcast to access http://www.ffgcomchurch.org/ on my Win 7 64 bit system using both IE 10 and FF 38.0.1.  I am running version 21.7.0.11 NSS (something for goblue771 to verify via Support > About from the main page of NSS).

I agree with both the comment by peterweb and others that the AVG and stopZilla removal tools need to be run, and as SGFC stated WIX sites seem to be dependent on Flash Player.  I was asked to update mine (Flash Player) when I went to the WIX Site itself and tried to access other WIX sites.  It appears there was a recent Flash Player that came out on May 12 - while I was on vacation - away from this desktop.  So that seems a possibility.

As SGFC suggested (and the setting location they gave was correct) a firewall reset may help, and also perhaps going thru all the settings and returning them all to Default - in order to eliminate NSS Settings.

After all the above has been attempted and no joy, please following the instructions is this NSS FAQ in lieu of running the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool (NRnRT) as was previously suggested.  As peterweb stated, Comcast users have found that the NRnRT does not work on all NSS installs for some reason.  It will sometimes throw an error that there is no Norton product installed.

Please keep us posted as to the results you get from each of the suggested actions.

What add-ons do you have enabled in Firefox?

Re: Images not displaying

I installed Norton Security with Backup last week. Since then, many pictures on a forum I've used for years now don't display. I use Chrome with Windows 7 on a PC and a laptop, both now have the same problem. I've never had any problem until now.

Re: Images not displaying

I will certainly do so. As I am afflicted with numerous nasty neurological (whew!!) diseases that  tire me out early, I'll do it tomorrow (Thursday 5/21) morning when I am at least partially competent.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions.

Hello Surferboy

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Last week, Windows updates came out. They have become known to cause all types of problems. Adobe Flash Player also came out with an update. Perhaps these could have caused problems with pictures.

What was your previous security program and how was it uninstalled? After installing NSwB, did you run live update until no more updates showed up and reboot when asked too. If you are using Win 8, please disable Fast Startup. Thanks.

Re: Images not displaying

Hi everyone. I just want to express how much I appreciate that so many of you took the time to try to help me. I tried your suggestions - NOTHING worked to fix my little problem. Finally, I contacted Norton again, spoke with a "techie" named "Jesu" (my pastor would love this...) who naturally didn't speak much English. However, he GUARANTEED that he could fix the issue if I would allow him to take control of my computer and just let him tinker. Well, I had had a truly awful experience once with allowing a MSN techie do that (Surprise!!! Microsoft caused a problem...HAH!!) but I let Jesu do it anyway.

It took him awhile, but I now can view our own site. Jesu claims it was that some Windows Update had not installed correctly. However, I saw him disable the Norton "smart" firewall, mess with the settings for several minutes, then re-connect it - and right then ffgcomchurch.org became visible!

Whatever.

I'm just grateful that "y'all" tried to help. Thanks again.

Peace,

Paul

Hello goblue771

I'm pleased to hear that you got your issue solved. Those Windows Updates have been troublesome the last few months. We used to be able to just look at them and then install. Now we have to pick and choose and analyze them before installing. Thanks.
