Immigrated to new a Mac.

Live Update has crashed and will not open. I am also getting the command for Keychain password. I have tried the Keychain fix and also the Live Update fix. Neither has worked. Instructions say to enter "administrator password." What is that?

That would be the password of the account you set up using "Mac OS X Setup Assistant" on your new Mac. See  menu item "->System Preferences…(Accounts)" for a list of all accounts both "Admin" and "Standard".

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

Thanks. Perhaps some clarification is needed. I went from an older Mac with the old processor running OS X 4 (Tiger) to a newer one with the Intel processor running OS X 6 (Snow Leopard). I am hoping to avoid OS X 7 (Lion) for a while because I have a lot of old applications like Quicken, Word and Photoshop that apparently won't run on Lion. So far, other than the glitch with LiveUpdate, the switch has gone well. I have now managed retrieve LiveUpdate and reset it so it won't be going after an update soon. Hopefully, I can get this problem straightened out fairly soon.

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

What version of NAV (or NIS) did you install?  Have you tried uninstall and reinstall?

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

I have version 11. No, I have not tried uninstall and install. Will try it.

Oops!! Is the uninstall and reinstall process explained somewhere?

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

First, do you have your original CD or the NAV installer saved somewhere?  I wasn't sure how it was installed on the new machine.

Once you are sure you have a way to reinstall, the uninstaller is located at /Applications/Symantec Solutions/Symantec Uninstaller.

After you run that and restart, run the installer (and it will have you restart again).  Then there is one more step needed to get the correct version of LiveUpdate.  Go to this page and follow the instructions there:

http://us.norton.com/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20100414123129EN&ln=en_US

After those steps, run LiveUpdate to get the latest version of NAV 11 and its definitions files.

Unfortunately, I downloaded my Norton Antivirus, so no CD.

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

So did you use Apple's migration tool to move NAV to the Snow Leopard machine?  That is probably what is preventing things from working well (though often the keychain repair can help).  I guess you could try installing Live Update 5.1.2 to see if it helps, but otherwise you can't really uninstall/reinstall unless you can get a new download (which may require contacting Customer Service with your purchase info).

Re: Immigrated to new a Mac.

I used the migration tool, and other applications are working fine. I tried the keychain fix, and it sort of helped. But when I tried the Live Update 5.1.2, Live Update crashed and burned, and my computer was jammed also. I had to use force quit to quit Live Update and get the computer back to normal. I have Live Update temporarily disabled. It is late on Friday now so I will wait until Monday to see about getting another download. Thanks for your help.
