Incomplete Installation of Norton Erasure

Foolishly I accepted an offer from Comcast to install Norton Security. Once again Norton goofed up my computer. Now with each startup there is a message that the installation of Norton Erasure was incomplete, but using Norton removal tool has had no affect. Is there any way to get rid of this residual of Norton Security?

Re: Incomplete Installation of Norton Erasure

What security software did you have on the computer before trying to install the Comcast Norton Security?

Have you restarted your computer? If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Fast Start feature.. See more information here.

I'll ask our resident Comcast guru @yank to look in on this thread.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

As to other security software, there was Malwarebytes and Spybot, although looking at at Spybot it would appear that it has never been used to scan the computer....not quite sure why it is there.

A comment about fast start is invalid because the  restarting technique was done in the manner suggested to avoid the rapid start facility.

Hi Grand doc,

By Norton Erasure I will guess that you really mean Norton Power Eraser.    Based on that I will tell you that the NPE is actually a part of the installation of Comcast's Norton Security Suite.  In order to continue, we'll need some additional information.  You stated you used the Norton Removal Tool - which had no affect.

Please answer the following:

  • Your operating system?
  • Are there any entries in Control Panel Programs and Features relating to Norton?
  • Did you download the Norton removal Tool from this link?  If not what link did you use?

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

  • Exactly how did you receive the offer from COMCAST to install NSS - I have to wonder if thee were a link for the download or if in fact it was a phishing offer - via popup, email or what?

I know lots of questions, but I can't see your system, so it is necessary to envision what you may have.
