Incredimail redirect attack! looking for better email and program thunderbird?

I was in my incredimail program and I clicked the link to go to the gallery to download stationary.  I got a redirect attack for a fake antivirus.  I am looking for a new email program.  How about Thunderbird?  Webmail would be okay but I in the past I haven't seen alot of antispam filters with webmail.  I have a gmail account, but with incredimail the junk mail is filtered out. Now I want to delete incredimail, the attack came from clicking something in my application!

I use Thunderbird by preference.  I find it very fast, has its own accurate antispam filtre, as well as being able to build your own rules, and extra folders.  It is very configurable.  Love it.

I am also a recent convert to Thunderbird.  The newly released version 3 features Tabbed Email (you can have your inbox open in one tab, and read messages in additional tabs).  It's a little confusing at first, but once you master it you'll find it very convenient.  Importing your data from Incredimail is possible, although it could require a bit of fiddling.  Here is a Mozilla KB article on the subject:

I found that there is no way to preview what is in my inbox without it being opened. Some spam still gets into my inbox.  I have an unopened folder as well as my email account inboxes. I'm afraid if I see it in the window, it is being opened and is a potential risk.  I wish Norton would handle spam in thunderbird, or windows live mail.  I have Windows 7, and it would be expensive, and not very practical to download microsoft office 2007 just to get outlook.

This is true, I believe, of any email client.  The preview panes in Outlook and Outlook Express actually do open the message to display it so the preview function is really more of a security liability than an asset.  Thunderbird blocks JavaScript and remote images by default.

Norton actually does filter spam with Thunderbird and should place any messages marked as [Norton AntiSpam] in Thunderbird's Junk folder, or you can create a Norton Antispam folder and a corresponding message rule as explained here:

It should be noted that Thunderbird has its own highly-regarded antispam filter which some users prefer.

In Thunderbird, when you open a folder, only the last viewed msg is shown, which is presumably a msg you wanted to view.

If you just started T-bird and open a folder, no msg is selected. You can then right-click a msg and mark it spam. As soon as it is marked spam, it should be moved to your spam folder.

You need to look at the options and especially the unwanted mail options, what you can do with spam. The latter you can adjust them on the general options- or on the mailbox level. In the rest of the options there are there  a lot for displaying and handling msgs.

Futhermore i have an extension installed, called 'Delete Junk Context Menu' which gives you further options to handle junk.
