Install Norton 360 on infected Mac

I have recommended Norton 360 to a Mac user's who's Mac was recently infected with something. She currently has no anti virus. The "Malware" on her Mac is blocking her from many websites including Norton and so can't set up a new account or download anything.

I've been told by tech support that the malware has to be removed before Norton can be installed which is a bit like saying you need to Install Norton to remove the problem so that you can install Norton.

If a new account can be set up from another device, is there anyway for Norton to be downloaded on a 3rd device, copied to a USB stick and run / installed from there? If not can anyone recommend a way to clean the Mac prior to trying to install 360, maybe running an app from a USB stick or booting from a USB stick?

The Mac is running OSX 10.11.6

@Atters
I was thinking you'd register and ask for help, there.
Maybe, Malwarebytes Staff & Experts can offer help/ideas.
I've read Malwarebytes Staff & Experts help regardless of whether you run Malwarebytes or not.

Were my machine.  I'd ask Malwarebytes Forum for help.  Just saying.

Re: Install Norton 360 on infected Mac

Thanks, I asked support as I've had Norton for more years than I wish to remember and was just asking how a newbie can get started. The answer was ask Apple Support and clean the Mac before installing 360.

I will check out Malwarebytes

Okay....the response from Norton Support was to ask Apple Support.
Sorry....I'm not familiar with Apple Support/Mac.
Thanks

Apple operates a threat intelligence process to quickly identify and block malware. Malware defenses are structured in three layers:

No, the Apple store does not provide virus removal services because that would be completely unnecessary, Apple devices don't get viruses.
