Installing Norton - Additional Charge?

Problem installing Norton yesterday, spoke to an agent who told me computer had been hacked and charged me £170 to fix and install Norton. Since then I have lost all e mails and cannot send or receive them.  Is this charge correct?

It sounds as if you were not in touch with the real Norton Support.

Can you please post the phone number and/or website address you contacted? Thanks.

Re: Installing Norton - Additional Charge?

I was scammed by these @#$#tards. I was fooled by the inadequate installation instructions on the installation card. In addition the scammers did an excellent job of making their scamsite near the top of the list on the google browser. Even when clicking on their website it looked very legit. Finally the answering party introduced themselves as a norton support tech.

I have contacted norton tech support through various personal about the scam and get a mixed message that it is under investigation and that I will receive feedback while other techs say norton will not give me any feedback .  ????

are there any companies or organizations which can setup a sting (for a price of course) to provide verification to my credit card company that the site is a fraud ?

Hello

Did you contact the real customer support by using this link. www.norton.com/chat  ? This is the real Norton Tech Support. The scammers are usually listed near the top of doing a Google search. How did you contact Norton after this episode? Are you waiting for a call back from the official Norton Tech Support?

Thanks.

Re: Installing Norton - Additional Charge?

yes I did contact the real www.norton.com/chat within my norton account. I have described to various agents what had happened and what I wished norton to do for me namely "verify that the site was a fraud and give me feedback that I could provide to my credit card company."  I get a mixed set of messages from these agents varying from "this has been sent up  to a higher level for investigation " to " your concern has been read but we can't do anything for you". I am still waiting for a reply from Norton Tech Support, so far nothing.  I have been tracking these crooks as they keep on changing their website. Their website is not as obvious as when I first encountered it but is still there. They have made their disclaimer much more obvious than in the past.

Another member passed on the following comment to me "

I wouldn't go there if I were you -- I believe it's illegal just as the original scamming may be. "

Nevertheless, it is clear that an investigation to reveal the fraudulent nature of these sites  such   as this one has been done

A technical support scam (often abbreviated tech support scam) refers to phone fraud that claims to be a legitimate technical support service. Ultimately I would just like a simple report from Norton in a format I can pass on to my credit card company stating that the site I was suckered into was a fraud, indicated service was unnecessary and no real service was provided.

The critical part of what you quote from my message to another sufferer is this:

is there company or organization that can do stings on these scammers.

I was pointing to the dangers of trying to sting the stingers ..... not to trying to get confirmation from Norton that the scammers were not the real Norton.

I think that that is what you need -- that the people you paid, if they said they were Norton, is confirmed by Norton that they are not. That is not the same as Norton confirming that they are scammers.

Good luck -- I'm surprised that your credit card company is being so difficult since they usually have enough information and history of conduct to have a pretty good idea what's going on.

Re: Installing Norton - Additional Charge?

thanks matt and huwyngr

essentially all I wanted when I first went to norton support chat was to have them verify that I had been scammed. what surprises me is that the chat people did not repeat what huwyngr said about

"I think that that is what you need -- that the people you paid, if they said they were Norton, is confirmed by Norton that they are not. That is not the same as Norton confirming that they are scammers. "  . I have been waiting for a report of some sort to pursue further action but a report or feedback never came through.

You are in good hands with the message from Matt who is Norton Staff and we know will not let things die. Do look for a message from him by clicking on that envelope icon up top right on the screen where it says Inbox

Hello brownie

Because you didn't get any feedback or report back from Customer Support is why I said I would try to get you something official from Symantec which is why Matt has contacted you..

Thanks.
