Internal License Error

Just received this error popup:

My Norton subscription is current, and shows as such in Norton Management. Norton shows as inactive on the machine, though (this seems to have happened recently, while I was away at work). When I check this device in my Norton Account, it shows an expired trial--but when I try to install the Norton Internet Security services from there, nothing happens.

I know the obvious solution is to just log in to my Norton Account on the machine and reactivate my subscription...but since Norton seems to have been down for a few days, and the event that precipitated my digging into this in the first place was my wife getting a BSOD, before I do this I want to check first and see if this is a legitimate Norton error, or a phishing attempt by some rootkit that's seized control of this machine, which is going to harvest my Norton Account login credentials and use them to disable security on every device my family owns! (Yep--for those here who remember me--still paranoid!)

I've already run Malwarebytes Free, and it turned up nothing suspicious.

Re: Internal License Error

Sorry paranoid (I remember that PM) - so no DistEd2 I have never seen that error until now!

<EDIT> I did locate this - but may not be the same thing!

Re: Internal License Error

Yeah, I'd seen that one too. It does look like a different error (unless the option the popular presents, to log in to my Norton Account, WOULDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM)...but it also seems possible it's the same message, worded differently in the new version. So I'm holding that option in reserve. Hopefully, somebody from Norton will be able to say whether or not the popular I posted is theirs. Have you or anyone else seen the upgrade to the new version of Norton Security (I think I posted this in the wrong forum) bump a Windows 10 machine off until the user signs in to their Norton Account again?

Re: Internal License Error

I have not seen this occur on my Win 10 AV edition running NS Premium 22.7.1.32 (fully patched and up to date as of this AM).

Re: Internal License Error

You could still click on OK in that message box to see if it does restore your protection. As long as you do not enter any information yourself, there should not be any problem.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.
