Invite Parent

I used the 'Invite parent' button so that my wife could also access the account I access - that way we can both monitor our children's activities - however the email my wife receive just took her to the default onlinefamily.norton webpage and when she registered it had created a new account and asked for her children's details etc.

How can I allow access to 'my' account without giving my wife my username and password?

Re: Invite Parent

Hi CarefulDad,

I tested the "invite parent" function and invited a new parent to join an existing account without problems.  Please make sure you click on the "I accept" link in the email that was sent to your wife's email account and click on "Get Started" to register her account.  Please see the screen shots below.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Invite Parent

I have had the same issue.  I follwed the directions as in your screen shot and attempted to do that a second time.  When I repeated it I got the message the invite has already been accepted.  But My wife still cannot access the avtivity of our kids.  The page wants us to add them as mew users.

Re: Invite Parent

Hi Robert_Hendrie,

After you click on the "I accept" link in the the email that you sent your wife, it would bring you to a new Web page, then you click on the Get Started button on the page, and register your wife's account, then what happen next?

Also, do you see your wife's email address under Settings -> Notify if you log into OnlineFamily using your email and password?

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Invite Parent

KatieQ,

You are right that my wife's email has an 'I accept' link - and then she clicks 'get started' and signs up as per your screenshots however this just sets up a new 'clean' account with no connection to my account.

She is expected to input the children's details etc. and it is clear that this is a new account.

Her email address is NOT list in the settings/notify section of my account.

Please investigate as it is clear this feature is not working.

Thanks,

CarefulDad

CarefulDad,

I would be more than happy to setup a remote desktop access and work together with you on this.  You're welcome to send me a private message or an email for details.  You can find my email address at http://community.norton.com/norton/profile?user.id=15038

Re: Invite Parent

Hi KatieQ,

Thanks for your response but considering time difference (I'm in UK - I guess you are in US) this could be difficult.

Also, this problem is related to the signup process - and therefore I don't see what remotely connecting to my PC will achieve. I've now tried this on a number of PCs (I work in IT) without success (so it doesn't seem PC related) and I see from the forum others are having trouble with this too....

Other users - has anyone successfully invited another adult via 'Invite Parent' successfully - i.e. they can connect to your account via their own signin?

Thanks

Re: Invite Parent

I too followed these instructions exactly as you describe.  Selected "I Accept" in the email, went to the web page an got started.  An error occured after registering the new account.  After that the account can be used to log in, but it has no knowledge of the family settings of the account that had sent the invitation.  Instead it wants to start everything new.  It does not even recognize that the Safety Minder software is already loaded on the same computer.  The new account does not show up in any settings of the account that sent the invitation.

Now when another invitation is sent, "I Accept" is selected, and user logs in we are greeted with the error message:

Your request was halted

It appears that this invitation has already been accepted.

Again, the accounts are not joined, and no parent information shows up in the original account.

Re: Invite Parent

I tried to invite a new email address and had the same result.  After "I Accept", "Get Started" and filled out information for the new account I received the error "We are experiencing technical difficulties. Please try to register again later. Err:GE1".  Trying again results in the error "This email address has been already registered with Norton Account. Click Cancel registration and log on with this email address and your Norton Account password."  Logging in results in a brand-new account, with no child information and not linked to the account that sent the invitation.  That new account insists on loading Safety Minder that is already running on the computer.

I see there is a known problem of not being able to invite a parent that already has a Norton Account.  This is now two email addresses, that were not previously Norton Accounts, that are now useless in connecting with the original family account.  The problem inviting email addresses that are already Norton Accounts must be fixed, or a way provided to delete Norton Accounts so that they can be used in another attempt.  I'm not interested in creating yet another email account for my wife that will probably have the same result.

Re: Invite Parent

It appears as though I am having the same problem as carefuldad.  My wife already had a Norton Account and the invite did not link her account to my settings.  Is there a way to fix this.  Why don't the add a link for add a parent in the settings rather than having to process through the invite process.   Regarding your "?" When my wife accepted the invite she entered her email and it said she already had a Norton Account.  She had to log in using that account and it will not link that account to my settings.  Thanks if this can be fixed it would be great.

Re: Invite Parent

Hi Robert_Hendrie,

Thanks for the post.  We sure will look into this.  In the meantime, please invite your wife to your account using her other email address.  If she doesn't have one, please create a free email, like a yahoo account.

Just want to double check on one thing....your wife clicked on the "I Accept" link in the invitation email to try to join  your account, right?  Please make sure she didn't go to the register page directly and create an OnlineFamily.Norton account.  If doing that, she would create an OnlineFamily.Norton individually, which can't be joined to your existing account.

Thanks,

Katie

Thanks Katie
