IPS DETECTION

Hello, I had an "IPS DETECTION" in the early hours of the morning. This coincided with a person parking near my house, staying in the vehicle for a few minutes, then driving off. Could he have been trying to intrude on my system?.

I notice that there is a very clear increase in signal strength when a piece of technology is opened to wi-fi sign on page when near my house.

I cannot find any "send"  "Submit" or similar button. I must be doing something wrong on posting. I give up.

Re: IPS DETECTION

IPS detections are alerts to attacks that match Norton signatures for exploits of known software vulnerabilities.  They block attempts to install malware using flaws in Windows and the software programs you run that have not been patched.  They actually have nothing to do with someone trying to access your computer or network.  The alert you got was most likely from a website you visited.  As long as you are securing your router's network with WPA2-AES encryption, there is little chance of anyone gaining access.

As odd as that sounds, i've heard of instances where people will drive around in a van attempting to pick up a signal or something - - when i heard that i was like, "Really?" (disbelief) some people have nothing better to do.  If you see someone suspicious skulking around your place again, i would call the authorities.

Re: IPS DETECTION

Hello, thanks for your reply, I am pretty careful with my security and resisted Virgin's attempts to persuade me to share my wi-fi location, for that very reason.

It was only the fact that I noticed the van on my CCTV, when I was re-setting the sensitivity before going to bed, so I signed back in on my pc, checked with Norton activity, and found that the activity reported, tallied with the departure of the van and my signing off time.

Very intriguing.

Re: IPS DETECTION

Hiya, yes, and I have looked back over previous early morning, (00.00- 0230), recordings, to see that this van has pulled into the cul-de-sac several times in the wee small hours, sat with cab lights on and obviously busily using mobile as the mobile's screen light is very bright.

It makes me wonder if he is using a scanner to lock on to active wi-fi hub signals in an attempt to 'listen in'.
