Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

Issue: Identity Safe does not autofill passwords in Firefox. It has not worked since early November 2015 when Mozilla updated Firefox. This is always an issue when Firefox is updated, but it has never taken Norton this long to fix the autofill functionality. Note: autofill works in Internet Explorer.

I have the latest Norton Security Suite, Firefox 43.0.4, I do not know the version of the Norton Toolbar.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

I'm using Firefox 43.0.4 and Norton Internet Security whatever the latest version is, cause its set to auto-update.  My system keeps freezing and locking up.  Not sure why but I do wonder if it has something to do with a conflict between these two programs and was wondering if anyone else is having a problem related to these two.

One reason why I'm suspicious is because under the Security History tab Its blocking Firefox anywhere between 2 to 12 times or more per day saying its blocking unauthorized access of medium severity and naming Firefox and the culprit.

So when my system is continually freezing and being forced to close out the browser, what else I'm I supposed to think.

I'm growing very tired of this behavior.  If anyone can help me figure out of what's going on, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

Hello Techie

The blocking that you are seeing is very common. Norton program will protect itself by stopping any program which gets too close to it's various parts. If Firefox is listed in the Firewall as having access to the internet, then Norton isn't causing your Firefox to crash.

Thanks.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

I discovered why my toolbar did not display.  While the extension was enabled, "Norton Toolbar" was not checked when under the "View" on the menu bar.  That solves my issue.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

Issue:

When I start Firefox:

  •     The Norton Safe Web field in the toolbar doesn't change when you go to different web sites.
  •     Clicking on the Norton Safe Web field in the toolbar does nothing.
  •     Clicking on the ... field in the toolbar does nothing.
  •     Safe Search is not shown in the toolbar.

  • If I look at the Firefox Browser Console (Tools > Web Developer > Browser Console) I see two instances of the following error message:

nortonidentitysafeaddon : TypeError: can't convert null to object (followed by a long stack trace)

I see these problems when NoScript is used (I am currently using NoScript 2.9.0.2).

If I open a second Firefox window the Norton toolbar works correctly.

I first reported this problem on 3rd Nov 2015:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/problem-norton-identity-safe-2015...

Other people have also reported the same problem:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/safe-search-not-shown-new-toolbar

Norton have acknowledged that this issue exists:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v115998338_En...

The same problem (or a very similar problem) can also occur when NoScript is not being used:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/norton-toolbar-doesnt-work-firefox

I am using:
Norton Security 22.5.5.15.
Norton Identity Safe 2015.5.6.86.
Firefox 43.0.4.

I believe using the Firefox private browsing mode disables all toolbars. This is part of the privacy protection.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

The vault. Where the heck is the vault?  Ridiculous.

* Norton Internet Security 22.5.15.5

* Norton Online Backup Current

* Norton Identity Safe 2015.5.6.78

* Firefox 43.0.4

* (I changed xpinstall.signatures.required to false -- not safe -- to get the toolbar to show at all.) https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-on-signing-in-firefox?as=u&utm_...

* Beyond Australis 1.3.4.1

(While composing this message, I read the Announcement about the status of the vault.  Outrageous.  I would like a partial refund for all these months I've been without the vault/toolbar.)

Nope!

I had to right click the Task Bar icon and select to open a new Private Browsing window though.

Thanks Krusty13

I made my comment from changing the Firefox options to always use Private browsing. When I did that, the Norton Toolbar disappeared.

Floplot

Thanks for your response.  I'm not sure that Firefox is listed in my firewall. Can you tell me where I can check to see if Firefox is listed in my Firewall to make sure.  And if not how do I enter Firefox in the NIS firewall exceptions.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

Hello Techie

I have Norton Security with Backup, but I believe the Firewall should be similar. Please go to Settings>Firewall>Program Control and look for Firefox to be listed among the listing. If it is there, make sure the setting is on Allow. If Firefox is listed, delete it so you can make sure the latest version of Firefox gets added. Do this with Firefox opened up. You should do this every time the version number changes in Firefox to make sure it is the latest version just in case Norton missed the change.

If it is not there, try adding it to the Firewall by clicking on Add and follow the directions. Please do this with an Administrator Account. Do this by finding the location of the latest Firefox.exe and getting that into the listing.

Make sure you click on Save or OK if you have made any changes.

I like to make sure things are the latest, so I try and keep the Firewall up to date or make sure it is up to date.

I think this should be the same or similar for NIS. 22.5.5.15

Thanks.

Yeah, my toolbar doesn't show with that setting either.  As I said I had to choose to open another Private Browsing Window to see the toolbar.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

The Phase 1 Norton Toolbar has now been updated to Norton Identity Safe 2016.5.6.90.

a) Both of the Phase 1 Norton Toolbar problems recorded in this thread are still present.

b) The 'Known issues' section in the release notes at

https://community.norton.com/en/blogs/product-update-announcements/norto...

does not mention either of these known issues (yet again...).

c) There is still no pinned announcement in this thread about these two problems.

Re: Issues with Phase 1 of the New Norton Toolbar for Firefox

We are now approaching the end of January.

There does not seem to have been any response from Norton to the problems with the Phase 1 Norton Toolbar identified in this thread or to this request for more information from Norton in another related thread:

https://community.norton.com/en/comment/6849991#comment-6849991

(or have I missed something?)
